Personal Narrative: Sammy And Sushi

Improved Essays
The first paying job that I ever had was walking my neighbor’s dogs: Sammy and Sushi. Sammy is a stunning American Cocker Spaniel with caramel fur that burns in the late afternoon sun and Sushi is an adorable Japanese Shih Tzu with black fur and white spots with nubby legs and a tongue that is always sticking out. Their eyes are impressive; when you have four chocolate orbs staring at you, it makes you feel comfortable and that everything is at ease. The two girls and I have taken several walks together over the past six or seven years, but the responsibilities involved were more than I initially expected. All good things change with age, and the same applies to loving, four-legged friends. In years past, Sammy and Sushi would always wait …show more content…
One would have to remember when walking with these two that they are the first priority. Making sure to take breaks when needed and cleaning up when they relieved themselves was a given. Their needs became my duties. I was there to keep them safe and away from speeding cars, and everything else was up to them. On rainy days, I would sacrifice my umbrella to keep the girls dry because I felt that I could handle the chill more efficiently. When it snowed, I altered our route so that they would be able to play in and enjoy the new, frozen blanket while staying healthy and able. This was always the case from the fence all the way until the end of the next street where a single yield sign stood. Approaching this destination triggered an instinct in all three of us and we knew that it was finally time to turn back. Thus, we went back the way we came, Sushi still at my heels and Sammy exploring the other side of the …show more content…
While going down the stairs was a major challenge before, going up them was another story to be told. It was at this point in the walk where newspaper bags were tied and thrown in the garbage can and Sushi braced herself against the wall, ready for me to climb the mountain before her as a beacon towards which she could strive to. When I succeeded the stairs and stood on the porch, Sushi hopped one step, two steps, three steps, until she arrived where I was. On the contrary, Sammy did not like to take as much time going up as she did going down, and hurriedly climbed the stairs as fast as her deteriorating bones could allow. The worst was over for the three of us, but now the most rewarding part of the journey was to come: treats and belly

Throughout my life, my friends and family call me “Chef Steve”. They call me this because I always end up cooking and revising my mom’s food. In my strong opinion, I know the extra ingredients to make the food taste more appetizing. With the right seasoning and amount that I put in the crawfish is as easy as learning how to breathe. My most wished for food of all time is garlic crawfish, not only because of the taste, but for the process of how its made.…

It significantly improved my interpersonal skills and communication, as well as gave me a lot of experience with working with other members of a team. We loathed the thought of this place ever since we departed from Seattle. It was finally time to climb the Golden Staircase. Not just once, but multiple times, going back and forth. This was because there was no way the donkeys were going to make it up a 45 degree angle that the mountain was leveled at, and there was no way we could all carry the thousands of pounds of items up there at one time. So three of us trekked up the mountain while two of us stayed at the bottom to guard our remaining things.…

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that an individual child with a desire to gain one Snickers bar, must be prepared to trade no less than three Twix bars. In my household, every bag of fun sized confections was an opportunity for a ridiculous negotiation with a not so ridiculous lesson behind it. When my father loves Snickers just as much as I do, why should he take only one inferior Twix for one Snickers? Critically assessing how much my companion stands to lose versus how much I was willing to pay to get what I want is a skill I have been developing since middle school. Negotiation and debate, human interaction of all kinds have always piqued my interests both academically and recreationally.…

Faith in Action Paper I spent my 15 faith service hours volunteering for Feed My Starving Children and I helped the maintenance crew around the school. While I did this I made new friends and grew as a person as well as in my faith. I probably spent about 8 or more of my service hours volunteering for Feed My Starving Children. Before when I was younger, I would go in because my older sister needed service hours and scoop some veggies and powder into a funnel for an hour and a half. Then after the session my sister would have me walk up to the counter and ask for a slip of paper with the service hours on it, so she give them to her school’s counselor and get the hours out of the way faster.…
