Upon my arrival at Commonwealth Honors Academy a mere twelve days ago I was ignorant to the fact that I was going to learn so much in my time spent here, but now I look back and realize that I have gained so much knowledge and I have acquired more details to add to what I knew before arrival. Overall I have learned that most things in life require constant attention and effort to make them truly work and that anyone you come in contact with and create an influence with will then, in turn, make a larger circle of influence that can quickly become bigger than you can ever be. The universal themes that have had the largest impact on me are the themes of Happiness, Friendship, and Sovereignty of Education.

The way we all feed off of each other and morph our ideas and use them to influence others is honestly so amazing. When Scottish Bob made the description that our influences were like ripples in a pond and that they started with one drop but then carry on throughout the whole area I was speechless because it was in that moment that I actually visualized just how far our visions and ideas could be spread. This actualization will be carried with me even when I leave CHA because it is so relevant to creating and maintaining a successful

In the essay, The Loss of the Creature, written by Walter Percy, the term “creature” means “true experience.” When we go somewhere, we often do research on the place or talk with people who have gone to the place. We create a vision for what our experience should be like without even reaching our destination. We often get caught up in creating a vision for our experience that we forget to stop, look around, and enjoy the world. When we go to a place, we try to experience what we have planned instead of experience what we were meant to experience, otherwise known as our true experience.…

This piece of work shows that although these students may possess many great features such as being intelligent, respectful and hardworking, all the effects are not so positive. Students should be respectful but not be afraid to challenge their authoritative figures, they should not be forced to learn a variety of things against their will nor be walked through life instead of being independent, and if they do have to learn certain subjects then they should also be taught how to build character. We live in an age where everyone is okay with being ordered around just to get that good grade or promotion. Society is so used to being told what to do that at times they may not even realize that most decisions they make are not their own. Also though students may be getting more intelligent, knowledge and following rules does not make someone a great person, character does.…

Whether it was taking time out of my day to attend the first general body meeting of debate team or filling out the application for National Society of Collegiate Scholars, I began my success by putting my foot out into the unknown without fully expecting what I was going to get out of it. Having the adventurous mind to try out new things has opened my mind greatly to leadership opportunities, service, scholarship, and social justice. Analysis of the consumer’s experience in “The Loss of Creature” The Grand Canyon is quite the sight to behold, as Walker Percy states in “The Loss of the Creature,” but how can humans embrace their experience of the Grand Canyon if they possess “the symbolic complex which has already been formed in the sightseer’s mind”(1)? This complex which some might not even know they posses. Percy discusses his theory that humans are not getting the full value of life by unintentionally accepting their roles as a passive consumer, allowing them to be persuaded without knowing. He explains how humans have lost their sovereignty, but provides a number of solutions to try and help the individual remove this disastrous mindset.…

Education in the United States From scholars and students listening to Plato’s and Socrates’ theological teachings, to modern day America’s public schools, education has affected the lives of every human being on the planet. This struggle defines the the importance of education today. However, the emphasis on education is completely incorrect.
