From a young age Americans are taught that they live in the best country in the world. They are taught that our way of thinking is always correct and better than everyone else's. We don’t even notice it happening because it occurs in such subtle ways: through schools, news media, television shows and movies, and much more. These things portray America as a great country that never does anything wrong and make us view the United States of America in a way that is not completely accurate. They alter the way we see our country and are what Walker Percy calls “symbolic complexes.” Percy doesn’t give a strict definition of a symbolic complex.
