In fact, it’s not necessarily always going to be either positive or negative, in certain situations, it can be both. For example, on page 253 there is a quote said by Sal that makes me believe it is both positive and negative. The quote goes like this, “On the tombstone, beneath her name and the dates of her birth and death, was an engraving of a maple tree” and the sentence went on. Another event that happened in that chapter was when Sal heard a bird song, she looked all around looking for the bird that was singing it and realized it was in the tree. But, Sal didn’t want to look too close because she wanted it to be the tree that was singing. This is found on page 154. This is positive because the tree seems to be alive since it’s “singing” and Sal sees a tree as her mom being there in a spiritual way. This leads Sal into believing that her mom is still present and is always with her. Now I also see this as a negative impact because Sal’s mom loved, no… adored trees and now that she passed away trees remind her of her mom and the missing presents of …show more content…
“My middle name, tree, comes from your basic tree, a thing of such beauty to my mother that she made it part of my name.” This shows where Sal got her name. She got her name from her mother, since Sal’s mom had such passion for trees, she made it part of her own child’s name. This is why I think Sal’s mom named her middle name tree. Look closely at the quote, the part that said, “comes from your basic tree, a thing of such beauty to my mother.” I think this shows how one person can see something simple as something simple. While another person sees something simple as something valuable. For example, look at a book, Person A sees it as just a bunch of words and pages with a cover. Person B sees it as a cover to open up a story of a fantasy, where the words drive you to the end of the book. This shows how different people have a different meaning and Sal’s mom saw these trees far more than just a brown sticky statue protruding out of the ground. She saw it as a huge root sticking out wherever it wants to and cannot be moved easily, it’s tough to knock down, and there are days where a tree will be down(winter), but the next time it will be 10 times harder to knock down. And I could go on and on, but time is valuable and I need to continue on the
