People often say that we don’t know what we have until we lose it, so you shouldn’t take people for granted. This was true for Phoebe's family. Mrs. Winterbottom was not cared about, or thanked, but after she left Phoebe’s entire family felt lost and didn’t know how to function correctly. That’s just one of the many themes of walk two moons though. In Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech there are plenty of themes that all intertwine with each other to create an amazing addition to the story.
One of the themes that keeps being brought up is you can't keep the birds of sadness from flying over your head, but you can stop them from nesting in your hair.
This quote is brought up multiple times in the story after Phoebe’s mother left. It was used

Sal’s mom moved to Lewiston Idaho right before Sal and her father moved to Euclid Ohio. She died at the end of her trip when the bus she was in fell off the side of a cliff and fell into a ditch. Sal could not believe it. No matter how hard she tried she kept telling herself her mother was coming back. Sal finally figures out after doing something crazy to see her mother. On page 247 the author stated: “I started the car, backed it up, and drove around the parking lot, stopped, and turned off the engine. I counted the money in my pocket and looked at the map once more.”(247) This definitely shows that love makes you do crazy things, because Sal literally drove a car on a steep road and then down a path on the side of a cliff to see a.grave stone. She cares about her mother that much, that as a middle schooler she was willing to face her biggest fear to see her mother’s grave. That is such a big crazy thing, and it’s an even bigger thing for sal to do it because she has a fear of driving or even being in a moving car …show more content…
Wether it’s the birds of sadness nesting in you're hair, people walking two moons in you're moccasins, Sal driving down a cliff for her mother’s grave, or Phoebe not knowing her mothers true worth, there our a lot of themes in this story, and the fun part is relating them to real life. For example, walking two moons in other people’s moccasins is a thing that can be related to real life. It means that you shouldn’t judge people because you don’t know what is going on in their lives. With the birds of sadness it is talking about how being sad is unavoidable but letting it take you over isn’t. With the You never know what you have until it’s gone, well that’s true for many things. Also love makes people do crazy things means that love can drive people to act different or do something crazy. Okay, I’m done, but I have one request. Try thinking about some of the themes I’ve mentioned or just any themes period. If you start seeing a positive trend follow it, and make yourself better by learning and living by the life lessons that the characters of Walk Two Moons

First in Walk Two Moons, the theme was found in Salamanca Hiddle’s thoughts. I know this because on page 21,and paragraph 5 it said, ” First their is that name: Cadaver.…

“Don’t judge a man until you’ve walked two moons in his moccasins.” This is a very important quote that is for everyone because you can’t judge someone on how they look or act unless you see or hear what they have dealt with. In the novel “Walk Two Moons” by Sharon Creech, the book is about a girl named Sal going on a roadtrip with her grandparents talking about things that have happened in her lifetime that deal with how that quote is in some ways. As a result of the setting and how it affects a character and the plot, Sal changes from being mad and not knowing what she was going to do, to being happy about her life and knowing now what she was going to do, being more confident, and knowing what life is really about. One of my reasons why I think Walk Two Moons got the Newberry Award was because how it talked about the concept because it would go to Phoebe's life and then back to the road trip to go find Sal's mom. I also think it got the Newberry Award was because it was organized, it would talk about Phoebe and then the Grandma would ask about what happened to Phoebe and I think that's why it also got the Newberry Award. This why I think it officially got the Newberry Award was because of the characters how they explained the characters it was my absolute favorite part and I think that it would be age appropriate for many people. The plot was good especially with Ben and Sal it was my favorite part, the other part I liked was when.…

In his short poem “To Waken an Old Lady,” William Carlos Williams writes about the disturbing subject of old age by representing old age through a series of actions that are typical of birds. Furthermore, the narrator 's use of figurative language and poetic structure contributes to the horrifying idea that death is bound to happen. Essentially, the speaker makes an attempt to show that the difficulties of old age shouldn’t leave a person feeling hopeless for life. The poem begins with the metaphor “old age is/ a flight of small/ cheeping birds” which puts forth the idea that old age can be illustrated through birds (lines 1-3).…

Therefore, the canaries that are considered as lovebirds symbolize the characters in the story. For instance, Melanie is considered to be like a bird. In the beginning of the film, Mitch catches a bird that Melanie releases in the bird shop and says, “Back in your gilded cage, Melanie Daniels.” There is no clear meaningful reason of the bird attacks in the film, but the metaphorical reason is very obvious. The bird attacks, symbolize the dominant character Lydia’s rage and her struggle to be the respected, precious female of the family.…

A theme from Walk Two Moon is You can’t keep the birds of sadness from flying overhead, but you can keep them from nesting in your hair. In the book there are lots of themes and you can’t keep the birds of sadness from nesting in your hair is one of them. One of the quotes for the theme is, “ When she went downstairs to say goodnight to her father he was sitting in his favorite chair staring at the television, but the television wasn’t on. “He felt the thud of the bodies, heard the fluttering of wings; but the birds were not yet defeated, for again and again they returned to the assault, jabbing his hands, his head, their little stabbing beaks sharp as pointed forks” (Daphne du Maurier’s The Birds). This enthralling scene is an excerpt from none other than Daphne du Maurier’s The Birds, and it inserts a perfect picture in the reader’s head of the suffering Nat is undergoing. In the short story The Birds, Nat must defend his family from the invasion of birds, and the author creates a suspenseful story with strong imagery during and after the raid of the birds.…
