Sal goes through many sad internal and external experiences. The sad events are brought about by tragedies in Sal’s life. There is darkness in Sal’s heart because she does not have a mother. Her mother dies when she goes on a road trip because she wants to get away from her father. There are happy times in Sal’s life. Sal even had times when she had a mini celebration because she had an overload of happiness. She is happy on her first day of school when she puts a spider on the windowsill and Pheobe compliments her. Pheobe becomes her best friend. It is the best way to start the year. Another example of a good subplot that makes Sal happy is when she and Ben kissed on the medical centers lawn. She said in the story that “I felt like a newLY born horse who knows nothing but feels everything”. She also stated that “our heads stared out on the lawn.” I can infer from these statements that she was excited and surprised about what they had just done. Sal was happy when she went on the road trip with her grandparents. She was happy that she goes to old Faithful and she also got to see Mount Rushmore.
Walk Two Moons is a story where there are a lot of internal and external forces for all the characters to experience. Through all of the internal and external conflict Sal finds happiness. At the end, Sal moves back to Bybanks, Kentucky, and she is very happy. She had her signing tree back and also had all the things she had left behind, that reminded her of her mother, also all of her friends are coming to visit her on the barn where she grew up in and the barn her and her mom had their days together. She finds a way to be happy after so many tragic and sad times. This shows that happiness can win over
