“Don't judge a man until you've walked two moons in his moccasins.” Sal's development was mainly because of the points in her life where she accepted and did not deny. In Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech, the author develops a theme of acceptance through conflict, plot, and characterization. In the novel, Sal's characterization contributes to the author's message of acceptance. Sal was very surprised that her dad actually took them to Euclid. “I did not think we would ever leave, and yet I did not want to leave. I didn't really expect to survive the trip”(Creech 6). Sal was surprised that her dad actually took them to Euclid. Sal finally realized that the trip wouldn't kill her and that it was fine to leave Bybanks. Sal was thankful her grandparents took her to Lewiston.”One day I realized that our whole trip out to Lewiston had been a gift from Gram, and Gramps.” (262). Sal's character expresses conflict in many different ways.”It was painful to talk to her, and I even cried in front of her, but afterward, I understood why my father liked to be with her.” (254). This is a conflict because Sal let out her emotions to Mrs. Cadaver. This was an eye opener for Sal she realized that Mrs. Cadaver is not a bad person. The author describes Sal’s external conflict by putting her through tough situations.”That I knew by myself, and for myself that she was not coming back.”(253-254). Sal is coming to a resolution of a conflict. Sal is realizing that she just needs to accept her mom is gone, and move on. Don't judge a book by its cover.” When I walk in her moccasins, I say, if I were my mother, I might want more children.”(264).
