Walgreen's Pharmacy Research Paper

Improved Essays
I was introduced into the pharmacy setting by being a part of a health science program in high school, and every week I would go to Walgreen’s pharmacy for training to become a certified pharmacy technician. After getting used to the college environment, I decided to volunteer at St. Joseph’s Pharmacy during my second semester of my freshmen year. The time that I spent at St. Joseph’s pharmacy helped me find my interests and skills in this profession and has motivated me to become a dependable pharmacist that patients can trust.
The pharmacists at St. Joseph Pharmacy are really passionate about what they do, and I can tell that they truly enjoy interacting with every patient. There was a time when a patient picked up her new medications, and

The pharmacist brought her to another room so that she can counsel the patient. The pharmacy was busy at the moment because it was close to closing time, but the pharmacist did not rush during the counseling. I would expect many people to rush so that they can close the pharmacy on time and leave, but this pharmacist even continued her counseling with the same patient when the pharmacy closed. This pharmacist has influenced me to become a pharmacist who cares for every patient that I will encounter. She inspires me to become a helpful pharmacist who is able to give immediate feedback to patients about what medications would be suitable for them and to be up to date with the new drugs that are on the market. Many patients rely on the pharmacy to tell them what medications to take. There were many times at the pharmacy where the pharmacists would have to …show more content…
The 12th Can is a student organization that tries to eliminate hunger by serving students and faculty members at Texas A&M. This organization opens a pantry two times a month, and people who are in need would come to the pantry to get the food they need to feed their family. Being a part of the 12th Can has taught me to become a selfless person that works hard to help those who are in need. Every time that we buy food or get a donation, we would have to sort out the food into different areas. Being a part of this organization takes a lot of dedication and hard work, but it is worth it because there are people out there who are less fortunate that depend on this food. My volunteering experiences have allowed me to develop my communication skills with people from different backgrounds and have taught me to treat everyone the same. These skills will be helpful when I counsel different types of patients for this profession and will allow me to encourage them to follow their medication procedures to speed up their

When I started working as a CAN, as well as volunteering in the health care field, I understood that the work involved included helping residents in activities of daily living. What I found out after I started working was how much of an impact the job makes on people. When I was volunteering to help a woman go grocery shopping I did not think much of it. However, when I came into her home and started putting her groceries away she started tearing up. I found out that she and her husband used to always go grocery shopping together and would later play a game that involved putting the groceries away.…

She took the time to teach me how to take a good clinical history, perform a focused physical examination, the importance of good bedside manners and to treat all patients with compassion and respect. Her personal history of having a child with food anaphylaxis, taught me about the difficulties and obstacles of living with food allergies; but most importantly, about how to use your personal experiences to help and empower others. Witnessing the rapport and interactions with her patients, I realized that this was exactly what I had always envisioned as a PA. I felt as if I was looking into my…

As a member of Health Occupations Students of America, I competed in dental terminology in the interest of diversifying my knowledge of the medical field and made it to state-level competition. I also joined a rigorous Pharmacy Technician Certification class and interned at CVS, an experience that taught me to work fast and in an organized fashion, be social with colleagues and customers, and teamwork skills such as assisting a customer or answering phone calls for co-workers. These responsibilities taught me to make use of time and be more social. This environment was amazing to me because I had always wanted to understand how a pharmacy is managed. In the end, I passed the state exam to become a certified Pharmacy…

I’m still steering towards the research and work at the industry level. The work at the community pharmacy seemed very monotonous and didn 't have much variation. I did like the patient interaction. I recognize the importance and role that the community pharmacy plays because the pharmacist is the last step in the patients’ health care. They are the last medical professional that the patient can talk too about their treatment, concerns and symptoms.…
