Walgreens: A Semiotic Analysis

Walking into Walgreens in order to find some kind of cough drop to treat my sore throat is the kind of things that I do not want to do while feeling sick. I stood there and looked at various of different packages that is placed on the shelves and hesitated with what kind of cough drops to buy. Then one package that popped up among other packages which was a yellow “HALLS” menthol cough drop bag. I read quickly over the descriptions and decided to take that bag and head over to the check out with the thought that hopefully this product can at least help to soothe my sore throat. Company focus on the convenience that the package can bring to the customer. Customers with sore throat sometimes do not need a large amount of cough drops to treat their throat. Buying a small bag of cough drops is enough for customers. The size of the bag is one of many factors that customers decide to buy the bag. Even though the bag looks small, but the quantity inside the bag is also large. One small bag contains thirty cough drops, which is also a large amount of cough drops inside a bag. Company focus on the convenience of the package but still keeps a certain amount of quantity in its bag. Consumers would feel happy because of package’s convenience and the quantity inside. Even though customers would need only a small amount to treat sore throats, they can continue to use it later on because of its large quantity. The color yellow of the package is also makes the buyers to pay more attention to the package. The company when using this color also with the intention of telling us about the flavor of the product, which is honey lemon. Using yellow, a bright color to attract buyer as well as give out other information about the product. When I look at different packages on the shelves, the yellow package that catch my eyes the most and I can immediately think of the flavor of the …show more content…
Consumers always need this kind of cough drops. When the weather changed, they can easily get sick and get sore throat. Those menthols cough drops can easily available in the grocery store or any other pharmacy. The products are also available throughout the year. It also the kind of product to help sore throat when the throat is not serious yet. The company target audience is from children at four years old to older people. The audience is variety so it is easily to attract consumer to buy the product if its design looks good for the consumers. The size of the package is not big so it is convenient to bring anywhere. When I bought this product, I was attracted by the package and thought it would be a good product to buy because I also in need of cough drops at the time. To an individual customer, the cough drops product is just a supplier to help to treat the sore throat. Buyers tend to not really pay attention to the details on the package in order to decide to buy the product.
