World War II made sure that the United States of America would rise as the next world power, but it also affected several states like California. In the chapter, “Wartime Growth and Problems,” of California: An Interpretive History, written by James J. Rawls and Walton Bean, it includes a chapter that talks about growth during the war. One of the sources that the textbook used in the chapter is Kevin Starr’s, Embattled Dreams, which goes into depth about California during the Second World War II. The book does a good job of providing the readers with more information about California during the early years of World War II. As she started thanking him for everything that he had done for her, the man who was in prison with Grant had seen him talking and decided to start fighting with Grant. The fight escalated and the police officers arrived at the next train station stop. She also heard the sound of a chained up dog barking, the “spurs” of a police officer, and nature, specifically the humming of the bees. Also, the police officers and puerto rican characters show some racial stereotypes, the police are aggressive and puerto ricans are loud and violent. In the studied account of Liu Dapeng life by Henrietta Harrison, The Man Awakened from Dreams takes the reader on a journey through the history of China during the 19th and 20th century through a first-hand account of Dapeng’s writings from the time of 1891 up until his death in 1942. Dapeng was a Confucian scholar and teacher who held onto his Confucian beliefs he had gained during his youth throughout his life while China in retrospect changed drastically. Dapend grew up in the village of Chiqiao located in northern China in Shanxi province.
