Although I recognize the benefits of formal education, I also believe that children need to learn through informal means as well. Furthermore, in regards to teachers the film reminded me of my own experience with bad teachers. As a student, one is able to distinguish those teachers that really care and are doing their best despite the lack of resources from those who do not care. In high school, I had two teachers, to whom the answer to every question was in the book, I ended up attempting to teach myself the best I could. The fact that it’s extremely hard to fired unqualified teachers who have tenure it’s upsetting. However, I can also foresee the detrimental effect of deregulating the firing process for certain teachers. This unknown of what the right answer could be shows the complexity of the issues in education. In my last reflection, I have attempted to express all the good and bad elements I have identified in the film “Waiting for Superman” because no solution to the issues in education could be either black or white, yes or no. It’s my conviction that a true sustainable solution will not rely on extremes but rather on a well-balanced combination of different pedagogical methods in education and a radical change in the system of funding
