Decent Essays
What will happen if immigrant and skilled workers switch their roles?
If their roles reversed then I doubt that would impact on immigrant workers since they can able to work hard and earn more money. Otherwise, skilled workers would be very disappointment in their job position and figure they can do more.
What will happen if wage inequality between upper class and poor class did not exist?
That means business owners would be on brink of bankruptcy if they paid everyone equally no matter what type of skills they have. Or they know how to take care of business well and can pay everyone fairly.

An article by Neil Gilbert called The Inequality Hype talks about the inequality that we face today. It provides statistics by talking about a survey where seventy-six percent of the public believe that the rich are getting richer while the poor are getting poorer. About the same percentage was calculated in 1987 which means that for the last thirty years about three-fourths of the population believe that the two classes are separating from each other even more. I believe that this is true because in today’s society there is a huge division between those two classes and the middle classes is either staying the same or changing into the lower class because they cannot afford to pay taxes since the middle class is the class that pays more. For…

The California Fair Pay Act (SB358) is designed to provide strength to the state of California’s equal pay laws. It is supposed to accomplish this by eliminating loopholes that may prevent the effective enforcement of the law and by empowering employees with the ability to discuss pay rates without fear of workplace retaliation. The new Act should help California to eliminate the gender wage gap with the following amendments to CA EPA: • Employees performing substantially equivalent work are will be paid fairly by laying out requirements resulting in equal pay for work so long as employees are of “comparable character.” • The outdated reference to the “same establishment” amongst the requirements for equal pay will be eliminated.…

Organizations and groups that utilize ‘trickle-up framework’ are “Committed to the belief that the interests of people who experience the greatest oppressions must be prioritized over those of the most privileged” (Defilippis & Anderson-Nathe, 114). Activists should cater to the needs of the most marginalized people rather than the most privileged in order to see social change that benefits everyone. Otherwise, the vulnerable and oppressed will continue to be ignored, and those who are considered more socially acceptable will retain their upper-class status. So, groups such as NQAPIA and allgo will organize around immigrants, people of color, transgender people, and other “impossible people” (Defilippis & Anderson-Nathe, 113). Intersectional…

In Michael J. Sandel’s article “What Isn’t for Sale?” he introduces his argument that markets have taken over our lives. Which is a problem because now markets have no limits. There is no boundary between markets and morals. Markets can put anything for sale, and we (the consumers) have no choice but to buy it.…

The Worst form of Inequality is to try to make equal things equal” --Aristotle Over the past generation inequality has become a big issue in our society. Whether you are rich or poor, born here or immigrant, high class or middle class, inequality will find its own way to you some how. Here we should stop and ask ourselves why should we care about high and rising inequality? The answer to this question is in these three articles, “Bring on More Immigrant Entrepreneurs “by Shayan Zadeh, “Confronting Inequality” by Paul Krugman, and “RIP, Middle Class: 1946-2013” by Edward McClelland.…

There are many similarities and differences of Immigrants and low wage workers. One of the similarities is that they are paid so little that they are barely able to live with any comfort or financial stability. They also both have more physical jobs most of the time worker a lot of hours. There are differences of their legal status though because illegal immigrants are forced to worry about getting caught being illegal while low wage workers are not forced to live in that sort of fear. I would spend my one million dollars in three very distinct and controversial ways. I would portion the money out to be donated to three different causes. My number one cause is factory jobs going to other countries, which is going to receive six hundred thousand. Second, homelessness would be nonexistent due to people having more jobs and my donation of three hundred thousand. Lastly, the income gap between the rich and poor would be substantially lower and the middle class population would increase dramatically due to more job opportunities in the United States of America and the final donation of my million dollars of one thousand dollars.…

Immigrant Work Force Effects on Economy A study published by Rasmussen Reports in August of 2015, an American polling company, showed that 51% of voters believe that illegal immigrants are taking jobs away from native workers. This is a valid fear to have as illegal immigrants cross the border of our country every day and make a living competing with our own workers, for our jobs, in our country. Research goes to show that immigrants compete with low skilled workers, teenagers, and black males, and not only do the immigrants take jobs away, but policy makers aren’t doing enough to curb the cost the immigrants are incurring on the county.…

America is experiencing a large gap in income inequality between the working class and the wealthy class. According to Derek Thompson, the new wealthy class, which is the top 1% of America population, holds nearly 40% of America’s wealth; while the new working and social class holds significantly less than 7%. There are opinions thinking that this gap is caused by the rich, who only think about their profits and don’t even care that America is having job a shortage or people are working low wage for several years. On the other hand, some blame the working and social class for their “immobility”, saying that they are not trying hard enough to climb out of the bottom while depending too much on the government subsidizes. Both opinions are true…

A Lopsided Fortune Scale: Annotated Bibliography of the Gender Wage Gap Fixing a societal mentality can be difficult to change. Therefore, narrowing the gender wage gap can be quite challenging to achieve. When topics, such as the benefits men have over women, are mentioned, gender discrimination fills the minds of the population. This occurs because people take into consideration the fact that the gender wage gap occurs in every state, happens in nearly every occupation, affects all levels of education and race, and grows with age. As of today, women make up 47 percent of workers, they receive more college and advanced degrees than men, yet on average, still make less than men do (Lukas).…
