Wage Garnishment

Decent Essays
I do not agree to wage garnishment since I do not like the fact that creditors have the ability to contact my employers and tell them I have defaulted on a loan or credit card. I believe wage garnishment should be changed to something else, something that does not directly let my employer know that I owe a debt. I also do not like the fact, that a creditor could pull money out of my paycheck without my knowledge. What if this debt was someone else’s and he or she now has the privilege of taking money from my paycheck. I feel that something else must be done other than wage garnishments especially in light of all the credit card fraud that has been occurring.

Syllabus: A statute in the state Kansas make it a misdemeanor for any person participating in “debt adjusting”, with an exception to the practice of law. This statute does not violate the Fourteenth Amendment Due Process Clause since states have the power to enact what they consider injurious practices in commercial and business affairs. The statute is valid as long as the laws do not conflict with specific constitutional rulings and federal law. Procedural History: This case was filed by Skrupa doing business as “Credit Advisors” alleged that Skrupa engaged in “debt adjusting”. Paying for College (An Analysis of The Rising Cost of College and the Modern Methods Used to Combat it) “Life has become the future. Every moment of your life is lived for the future--you go to high school so you can go to college so you can get a good job so you can get a nice house so you can afford to send your kids to college so they can get a good job so they can get a nice house so they can afford to send their kids to college” (Green, 2008). A summer 's work at minimum wage use to easily pay for a whole year of college tuition. Today even if minimum wage was doubled, working all summer could barely pay for half the years tuition and fees. This has obviously become problematic, due to the fact that, in today 's job market, it is nearly…

The article of the Small Claims Court was an article that dissected what television shows like Judge Judy does to the general public and beyond. This article focused on juries that were in Manhattan, the District of Columbia and Hackensack, New Jersey. However, it would have been interesting for the article to have polled other cities that were not in the northeast of the United States. I believe that if they would had used more different regions in the study, it could have been more complete and perhaps different, given that the study could have found more detailed, thorough findings. The reason it may be different in other regions in the United States is, since some other people may not have watched shows like Judge Judy or they…

Alice, Great question, I think that to create a system that would prove to be both equitably fair and cost effective at the same time it is essential that it be regulated at the state level. The system needs to be able to compensate those individuals who have suffered damages in a matter specific to their current financial situation, as well as the current economic situation of their area, which I feel could only be accomplished at the state level. I do however, feel that states should have an open line of communication with one another as our country does with the United Nations, rather than have the federal government come in and make decisions for the states as a parent would with two children who can’t seem to get along.…

I disagree with this statement. When debt is forgiven, it is because the taypayer failed to make the payment for the debt on time or they were none existent. Although the taxpayer may not have the dollars at the time the debt was forgiven, they were given this income at one point in time. Since the income was never taxed or paid back, it must be included in the borrower's income once it is written off. It would be "fair" to others in the income was…
