Researchers Kennedy, Nagata, Mushenski, and Johnson, used various studies as well as several different laws, to explain the wage discrimination based on gender and race. The article begins by stating how the Equal Pay Act of 1963 helped outlaw any type of discrimination based on gender. Following this act was the Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.This act helped broaden the Equal Pay Act of 1963 by outlawing wage discrimination based on race, color, sex, religion, and national origin. As the article continues to detail wage disparities, the authors used a previous study from the Compustat ExecuComp database from 1992 through 1997.
