For my dance event, my boyfriend and I went to Parade the Circle at Wade Oval in Cleveland, Ohio. I decided to go to this event because Professor Deering recommended it, and I am so glad I listened to her. I had never heard of Parade the Circle before and had a blast with its diverse and eye-opening parade! Wade Oval is a large area of grass surrounded by a circular road behind the Cleveland Museum of Art. When I arrived at the event, I was a little overwhelmed by the number of things to do. Fortunately, I saw people handing out information booklets about the event. Since we arrived early, my boyfriend and I walked around to all of the tents before the parade began. There were many organizations promoting themselves including the Cleveland Public Library. Part of their tent was performing puppet shows for younger children to keep them entertained before the parade. Once we explored the Oval, we took a sneak peek at the costumes and acts that were lined up by the Art Museum. They were all so unique and colorful obviously with a lot of work put into them. Once it was getting close to parade time, we went to find a spot along the road. We did not realize how popular this event was and how busy it was going to be. Fortunately, we …show more content…
The women that were from India wore long, flowing, colorful pants with matching sashes, similarly to how a woman would dress when performing Bharata Natyam. They performed a dance in two rows moving in the opposite directions. Unfortunately, the music played for them to dance to was not very loud compared to the other music of the parade, so I was able to watch their moves, but not correlate it with the music. The other dance was performed from Africa, and it was very exciting to watch. The women made long, quick gestures with their arms and legs to drums. They looked like they truly enjoyed dancing and performing for others to

Attending this festival made me feel closer to home since I come from a town that the majority of the population are Mexican. While I was waiting for FAMA to perform it was heartbreaking that in the crowd a child got lost and it took a while for the parents to find him. I was surprised at the parents, because they saw how many people were there and some would still let their children be running around. Therefore, it was a pleasure to attend the Chicano Park Festival because it have insight on the significance of the…

The event I attended was the Cuentos y Culturas Latinx Heritage Month Showcase hosted by Say Sí. The event ran from September 23rd to the 24th. The performance was only available on the opening days, however the exhibit portion was open to the public for a few weeks after. The performance was an original stage production that portrays one of the creation stories from the Coahuiltecans, who were Native Americans that lived in the southern regions of texas. The best parade this year was the Raisin Day parade in my opinion. We were going strong and keeping the same pace without getting tired. This is what showed that this band was not going to back down from all the amazing bands that we would soon face. I was also proud and very impressed of how the band stayed focused when they needed to be focused during the time of learning our field show.…

On September 15, I went and took part in el Grito ceremony held at the Miller Outdoor Theater to celebrate the Mexican Independence Day. I did not know what was el Grito, so I went to that event with an open mind. The show came after a long speech in both Spanish and English about the Mexican community in Houston and the impact of Harvey on the community. I really enjoy the sense of community that I experienced during that event. People came as a family or with a group of friends.…

This year, our Marching Band got the chance to go to Nashville, Tennessee where we encountered the different musical culture they had. We attended The Grand Ole Opry, a concert where many talented country musicians performed live in a giant hall. It was a fascinating experience when we learned about the musician’s lives through their music and what they consider everyday aspect of their lives that we don’t have farther up north. One of the band members got the opportunity to participate in a dance off onstage during one of the breaks, something the whole band celebrated in camaraderie. A museum with all things country music, “Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum” held all kinds of pieces from various dresses and instruments of musicians from…

Seeing people together, just how it was in CicLAvia where there was no discrimination nor hate. Witnessing that is rare to witness and cherish that moment. In our class, Chicanos Studies, we learn about how people in the past hated and discriminated each other and is still going on today. People in the event were nice and were not judging anyone on what they were wearing while riding a bike. They were many weird things we saw in the event like an almost naked man sing on the bridge, yet people were not yelling at the man.…

There was an awesome african piece that started of with a young lady giving words of wisdom and were dressed in colorful traditional african costumes. This piece put me in mind of an initiation ceremony because of how the girls were brought out covered and was eventually revealed . Once revealed each dancer was brought towards the front to perform a specific dance this dance was a combination of hand movements and ending with bowing down. After the initiation everyone joined the stage together and performed an african tribute with a combination of fast and slow movements, jumping and singing. The music was perfect for the performance and the lighting made the women costumes colors and patterns pop out.…
