Due to the nature of the administration’s duty, there is much conflict potential with especially the students. Actually, there have been many controversies over the last few years that had upset a lot of students. Most notably, regarding a professor who was exposed for harassing some of his female students. University authority was not able to suspend him because of an old civil servants law, which protected him from being dismissed. (Kogelnik 2015)
Fourth, the local community plus the environment surrounding the university heavily depend on WU’s ability to promote awareness on challenges and issues within its milieu in order to eliminate critical social imbalances.
Last but not least, companies operating in Austria, particularly in Vienna would expect WU to produce future managers who are not only skilled, but also knowledgeable. Since many firms have already employed corporate social responsibility programs to ensure sustainable development, future leaders who have a mindset for sustainable development will be in high demand.

Development can only be sustainable if the needs of today will not compromise the needs of tomorrow. Even as business and economics university, WU Vienna has a strong focus on the pillars of sustainability: Economy, Society, and Environment. Consequently, universities are expected to take on the role as a forerunner in society (Competence Center for Sustainability). As a matter of fact, WU Vienna is part of the “Alliance of Sustainable Universities in Austria”, a partnership of nine Austrian universities that aims at promoting sustainability issues and a more sustainable society. By appearing as a common association, problems can be tackled not only on a nation wide basis, but also within the universities. Indeed, one of the major accomplishments of the alliance was, that each participating university pledged to develop a sustainable strategy that includes precise goals and measures to foster sustainability within research, education and operations.
