WSU Student Ambassadors

The most meaningful experience I have ever had while at WSU was when I was awarded two scholarships, nominated by my professors, where I was honored at a departmental dinner. This financial support meant so much to me and my family because it ensured that I would be able to stay in school for at least another semester, after spending semester after semester wondering where I would get money to pay for the next. I was so honored and thankful that my professors saw potential in me to thrive within the academic setting, and it was this that made me even more dedicated to my studies and ensuring my future towards success. A thank you card was not suffice to express my gratitude, but it was all I could offer, after these professors had given me, …show more content…
If I were at a recruitment event, I would want one of the messages for students and their parents to remember is that WSU encourages and supports each student to work hard in and outside of class in their studies, so that they not only maintain their grades, but also because this will open up doors for other opportunities like scholarships, Honors College, and organizations such as WSU Student Ambassadors. I want them to remember that there are different resources available to them to help them with their studies and completing homework, including tutoring services, math and writing centers, and different quiet areas to study, so they know that achieving excellent grades is the expectation for all students. Another message I want potential students and their parents to remember is that one of the essential keys to succeeding and prospering at WSU is to get involved with all the different campus events and organizations available because this is an adequate way to meet new people and develop a sense of a community. Not only is this possible within Greek life, but there are also many different clubs …show more content…
I think it is important that those from the LGBTQ community, along with groups from different racial, ethnic, and religious backgrounds feel safe and welcome to participate in all the wonders WSU offers, just as their peers do. I want to encourage introducing more of these diverse groups into the mainstream WSU scene because this will only increase healthy interactions and partnership within the academic and social setting. Ability to interact with different groups is not only a critical skill to have in college, but also in life, as the world is full of diverse people. Social interaction is also an important aspect of this job and I am adequately able to not only appropriately communicate with others, but I also enjoy learning about others and meeting new people through social interaction with my positive attitude and friendly demeanor. I am even highly familiar with the WSU campus, along with all of its resources. Meeting others and guiding them on their journey at WSU would not feel like a job to me, but more like the appropriate thing to do as an upperclassmen who hopes to one day make a career out of this type of work. I pride myself as being a responsible and reliable worker, able to work long hours while completing any task

However, after discussing the initial rejection, Whitney continues by covering the forum hosted by PRIDE and Campus Ministry. This forum was created to inform the university's community of the recent rejection and PRIDE's presence on campus. After elaborating about the forum, Whitney uses pro-PRIDE sources and rhetoric to argue that the LGBTQ+ group "is held to…

Meeting with the Spectrum group today (an LGBTQ group of students on campus) was the essence of social advocacy that includes actions that would benefit individuals, groups, and the campus society itself. After speaking with Abby & Destinee from CICI, it is clear that separate LGBTQ groups need to work together and learn about each other. Hence, I am trying to be a liaison for the Prism group (LGBTQ faculty and staff), Spectrum, Student government LGBTQ senator, and the chairperson for the presence of LGBTQ on campus, along with Lucy Cross, to create a conversation between all the groups so they have more solidarity and a presence on campus. I look forward to see how this will work out. I believe that this will help challenge campus prejudice…

Before we step into the real world of college, we hear about all the different sororities and fraternities, what goes on, what they act like, and what they do. We all have seem to have our different views of what “Greek life” really is, but have we really observed the people and the things they do? Despite the ongoing stereotypes we hear about Greek Life on college campuses, being involved here at UCM seems to be very beneficial for not only the students, but the community too. Yes, there are true and false stereotypes for the different sororities or fraternities here at UCM, but if you take a look at what Greek life does around campus, you are able to see the different values they uphold and how they interact with everyone on campus. One of the most popular stereotypes you hear about Greek Life on campus is that, everyone in them is not in college for the education, they are just here to have a good time.…

Breaking Stereotypes One Step At a Time Greek life contributes a lot to the average college community. Whether it being, giving student’s connections, philanthropy, or providing a fun atmosphere for several stressed college students. The affect it has on the students individually is huge too. Fraternity’s and sorority’s push each member to reach outside their comfort zone, and to strive for excellence in academics, community involvement, and personal development. “Greeks all speak a “language” that they learn in the process of becoming part of their fraternity/sorority.…

As a possible incoming student, who not only desires to, but needs to learn and attend a favorable campus, the things that I can offer and/or bring are my experiences and skills. I will try to help enrich the campus community as much as I can. Although, my experiences and interests may be easily overlooked by some because of the simple fact that I am “only seventeen,” and that everyone is still continuously evolving. I believe I can still bring something to only help enrich the community. A particular experience that I know differentiates from others is, being Hmong.…

There are many justifications as to why I decided to attend American Public University (APUS). The three main reasons: I want to be an encouragement to my children, I want a solid career foundation, plus enhancing my education will also help me to improve my own self-assurance. Establishing a positive atmosphere, and being an example of encouragement for my children is the most significant reason for my decision to attend American Public University. I know it will be a challenge, but I want my children to understand that it is easier to struggle to further your education, than it is to struggle enduring poverty from lack of a degree. American Public University can help me to realize my dreams of being an inspiration to my children.…

“I have to go here, dad. I just have to,” I told my father during our first tour of Colorado Mesa University’s campus. “I already feel like a Maverick,” I admitted as I straightened out my new CMU ball cap from the campus bookstore. It was a strange feeling knowing that I would no longer be Lakeland High School’s most spirited student, but there was excitement in knowing that I would soon show my pride for Colorado Mesa. Images of my blue and white spirit wear quickly changed to be maroon and gold.…

Life's a journey worth taking the unbeaten path. That is why, despite looking up to my loving parents and having the utmost respect for them, I have taken a different road than they did. However, undergoing any challenge without their guiding experience can certainly prove to be an undertaking. I, a first generation college student, am the pioneer of higher education for my family. Though I join many others in lunging out into the world for the first time, I am doing so without having a father or mother to tell me how to tackle the college experience.…

One of the reasons I would be honored to be a student ambassador is because I want to introduce and familiarize other prospective students with the school that I love so much, that has opened so many doors of opportunities, introduced me to so many amazing people, and has given me a top notch education. I want to encourage students who are perhaps unsure if WSU is right for them, or if college in general is right for them, that WSU and all that it has to offer makes it the place for anyone, from all backgrounds, all experiences, and all areas of interests. This is because WSU also offers majors, clubs and organizations, and communities in which anyone can find a sense of belonging and acceptance. Aside from the school itself, WSU is home to…
