Christine is one of the original members of the Women on the Move (WOTM) program. She started as a member in the pilot project and participated in the first leadership development program. While Christine lived in the shelter with her two children, the staff identified her as someone with natural leadership skills because of the way in which she took on the role to support other women in the shelter. Today, she has complete a business administration diploma, started a career in business administration and her youngest child is in middle school.
“My life has been shaped by many twists and turns, domestic violence has a way of robbing you of the very essence of who you are, but I am determined to leave a legacy for my children, and to offer support to my family. My participation in the WOTM leadership program was a positive turning point in my life. It is in this program where I first started to see the possibility of a world I invasion for myself and my children. It is where I was often reminded by the staff that my dreams are possible. Daunted by the task and grieving her mother’s health, Christine stated, “I was devastated by the news of my mom’s illness, but I knew what I had to do. After a period of grieving, I decided that I had to reinvent myself, I had to get creative. I was feeling on top of the world with a career ahead of me and now I have to make another turn in my plans. I had to work, and I needed to keep my administrative skills sharp, plus I had to find a job that offered the flexibility I needed.
