The purpose of this paper is to analyze the data and variables within a research study. The data from the research study will be analyzed using descriptive statistics. The variables within the study will be further discussed using the following concepts: levels of measure, frequency distribution and central tendency. In addition, the variables will be analyze and a discussion on their implications to research and nursing practice.
Levels of Measure
Age
The level of measure for age is ratio. Ratio is the level of measure because the variable age has a meaningful 0 (Loiselle, Profetto-Mcrath, Polit & Beck, 2011). An age of zero would mean the participant did not exist. In addition, because the variable age has a meaningful …show more content…
Gender is coded into two categories but the categories are no ranked (Loiselle et al., 2011). The categories of gender are male or female and cannot be ranked because one gender is not more than or less than the other (Loiselle et al., 2011).
Knowledge about client’s target blood pressure
The level of measure for the variable knowledge about client’s target blood pressure is interval. This variable is interval level of measure because of the categories, ranking, there is equal increments of 1 on the scale and there is no meaningful zero (Loiselle et al., 2011). A score obtained on the scale of knowledge about client’s target blood pressure cannot be doubled in its magnitude (Loiselle et al., 2011). For example, the score obtained of the attribute knowledge score of 4 is not twice the amount of knowledge of a score of 2 for a participant.
National Institutes of Health hypertension category
The variable National Institutes of Health hypertension category is an ordinal level of measure. This variable is ordinal because there are four categories of hypertension with ranking but there are no equal increments between the categories (Loiselle et al., 2011). The variable National Institutes of Health hypertension category does not provide how much greater one category is from another, participants are placed into categories based on their result and ranked (Loiselle et al.,
