MORGANTOWN, W.Va.-- Tanner Campbell's lights out performance propelled the West Virginia University baseball team to a 5-1 victory over Eastern Michigan on Wednesday at Monongalia County Ballpark.
The freshman right-handed (2-1) tossed five innings of one-hit baseball. He struck out two and walked two. Campbell took a no-hitter into the fifth inning.

The Mountaineers (16-11) relied on its youthful lineup to defeat the Eagles (12-16). Its freshman starters picked seven of WVU’s eight hits up. They accounted for four of the five RBI. “The last two games we’ve had better energy, better effort,” Mountaineers head coach Randy Mazey said. “Now we’ve won four out of five, three of those being one-run games, so now I think this team is starting

Inman hit two doubles and Hill had one. Inman and Galusky both had web gems during the win. Second baseman Inman's diving stop in the second inning kept Campbell's no-hitter alive. While Galusky's play came in the eighth with the bases loaded.

Galusky ran to his left, fielded a ground ball at the edge of the outfield turf and threw out the Eastern Michigan batter at first base.

“That was the difference tonight, the defense on the left side of the infield,” Mazey said. Cole’s never played third base in this program, and hasn’t practiced over there. He sure made a difference defensively. Jimmy’s play up the middle was as good of a play as you’ll see by any shortstop in college baseball. That’s why he’s out there.”

Senior reliever Jeff Hardy recorded the final four outs of the game, earning his second save of the season.

WVU's Kyle Davis led off the first inning with a double down the left field line. Hill's single to left brought Davis home and gave the Mountaineers a 1-0 lead.

In the third, WVU tacked on a pair of runs. Galusky singled through the left side and Hill walked. Inman drove in both runners with a double down the right field

Today saw Coach Holgorsen and his staff sign every committed player that was expected to sign, sign with the Mountaineers. West Virginia failed to sign a quarterback in this class which concerns some fans but don't forget that WVU has Will Grier (JR), Chris Chugunov (SO), and Cody Saunders (FR). There is youth at the position but as we have seen before you can never have enough experience at the quarterback position. Two strengths that West Virginia walked away with in this class are defensive line and defensive backfield which should make defensive coordinator Tony Gibson a very happy man.…

The Right Fielder accepted that role simply since he wanted to play the game of baseball and he knew that it could be his only chance to play on this team. Whenever the team hit balls that went towards right field, they never bothered to wait for them to be returned since they did not believe in him leaving his legacy by catching a ball. Finally, when they ran out of balls they were forced to go towards The Right Fielder and as they got closer to him, they saw his body laying there with a ball underneath proving that he caught a ball, left his legacy, and proved his whole team…
