Vygotsky: Difference Between Sociocultural Theory And Cognitive Theory

As mentioned above, Piaget’s cognitive theory is also representative during the developing period. Yet, there are essential difference between sociocultural theory and cognitive theory. Vygotsky believed that social factors affect development, on the other side, Piaget focus on how interaction and exploration affect child’s development. There is another aspect of distinction that based on Piaget’s cognitive theory; development is mainly universal while Vygotsky suggested the development could differ among diverse cultures. For example, child living in western culture will be different to the child living in eastern culture. Geographic location, language, and historic factors even the food will cause the different developmental capacity.
According to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s movie called Kindergarten Cop, the new teacher was facing a very common situation that students are out of control together. In the movie, none of the student was obeying the class discipline when the teacher was not in the class. Eventually the teacher brought in a new “buddy” to attract children’s attention and trying to reshape a new learning environment so student can pay more attention on the class. Generally, educator can utilize the conceptual framework to support child’s behaviour. For example, educator can capture child’s interest and motivate child by utilize the interest. In addition, might be the culture background that affects child’s behaviour makes child feel could not fit into the learning environment.
