There are many things to appreciate in this fourteen minute short. From the set design of sleek, modern life to the beauty of the Hebrew language. While the subject matter is a heartbreaking one, it cannot be denied that it is wonderfully done. The use of the extreme close-up in the film is incredibly meaningful to the story. No days pass. No backstory is offered allowing the audience to speculate and determine why all of it is happening. It is the story of one night told in fourteen melancholy minutes. Why is that likeable you ask? Sometimes in short films there is the pressure for major things to happen and for them to happen quickly. Character arcs, problem solving and getting to the big reveal sometimes, if used in the wrong type of story, can hurt the intended soul of a piece. Vows takes its time and really digs into the emotion of the reaction. There is no fanfare. There is no resolution. Art imitates life in Vows. As your own life goes by there isn't the soundtrack you hear in movies. The slow motion cameras may not be there to see you fall to your knees but you get the point. The portrayal of this story is almost musical in nature. The motions, though packed with hurt are executed with precision and passion. Through the use of the music and sounds the tension built is palpable furthering the expression such a vulnerable
