Before the Oscars there is always a feverish dash to see as many nominated feature and short films as possible. Now that the Academy Awards have passed, the public just wants to relax. Most audiences tend to return to romantic comedies and superhero flicks. You may be compelled to do the same; but first check out Vows.

There are many things to appreciate in this fourteen minute short. From the set design of sleek, modern life to the beauty of the Hebrew language. While the subject matter is a heartbreaking one, it cannot be denied that it is wonderfully done. The use of the extreme close-up in the film is incredibly meaningful to the story. The entire point of that type of shot is to force the audience to pay attention. To feel and be captured by the moment. It is a technique that works very well for Vows because of the emotional level at the story's center. At the end of the film the dialogue and

No days pass. No backstory is offered allowing the audience to speculate and determine why all of it is happening. It is the story of one night told in fourteen melancholy minutes. Why is that likeable you ask? Sometimes in short films there is the pressure for major things to happen and for them to happen quickly. Character arcs, problem solving and getting to the big reveal sometimes, if used in the wrong type of story, can hurt the intended soul of a piece. Vows takes its time and really digs into the emotion of the reaction. There is no fanfare. There is no resolution. Art imitates life in Vows. As your own life goes by there isn't the soundtrack you hear in movies. The slow motion cameras may not be there to see you fall to your knees but you get the point. The portrayal of this story is almost musical in nature. The motions, though packed with hurt are executed with precision and passion. Through the use of the music and sounds the tension built is palpable furthering the expression such a vulnerable

I doubt that Alex got pregnen, if she was obssesed with Dan she could have made everything up. In the book The Vow written by Kim and Krickitt Carpenter, the setting creates a suspenseful, yet melancholy tone and mood for the reader. During the devastating automobile accident, the author used lots of imagery to convey, and perceive the scene of the accident as if it was taking place right in front of the reader’s eyes. Another example was when Krickitt was transferred to the neurological institute. The way Kim imagined her lying in the dark hospital room really revealed how badly Krickitt’s injuries were. The fact that Krickitt was in a coma was truly a stressful situation for both her family and her husband Kim.…

Princess Bride is a critically-acclaimed film based on a novel that includes strong aspects of the hero’s journey. Rob Reiner, the director, creates a perfect mix of comedy, fantasy, and romance which successfully delivers the deconstructive interpretation that Inigo Montoya is the hero of the story rather than “the man in black”. Inigo Montoya’s call to adventure begins when his father is unrightfully murdered by the six-fingered villain and his drive for revenge establishes the events that lead to the rescue of the princess bride. A close reading of the text reveals without Inigo Montoya’s presence in the storyline the hero’s journey would not have been able to be completed, hence making him the protagonist. It all begins with a magnificent…

Through the years, the United States has changed a lot of laws. One of the most recent changes would be the legalization of marijuana, as its a type of drug and its a crime to possess/consume drugs. Now, more than 20 states in the United States made it legal to consume and/or possess marijuana, but of course, there are strict regulations to get it, such as being over 21 and having an authorized card. The Story of An Hour - Literary Analysis Marriage in the 1800’s was essentially an idea of a woman being the man’s property. In “The Story of An Hour,” Chopin represents a negative view of marriage by portraying a woman’s relief and joy upon her husband’s death, resulting in the examination of a female’s self-discovery of identity that was lost while fulfilling the role of a good wife. Chopin presents this through the setting of the text as Mrs.Mallard’s emotions transition from numbness to newfound joy. “The Story of An Hour” communicates the transition of a soul moving from being trapped in a cage of domesticity, like a small bird, to of the free, spring world, showing that nature and the soul are connected, as shown through the different…
