Personal Narrative: My Trip To The City Of Memphis, Tennessee

Many people have heard stories growing up about witches and evil spirits haunting abandoned buildings and lurking around deserted towns. Let me tell you about something that is going on right here in your town of Memphis, Tennessee. It all started one day at work. First, Drew a coworker said: “Today is a the big day!” when he walked into the lab “We have to go out to Voodoo Village to finish up our surveillance on mosquitos.” This made me very nervous because when I remember in my home country of Haiti, Voodoo is a serious subject, nothing to play with. Though the thought of going to this place made me extremely uneasy.
Second, I packed up my gear and got in the truck with him. Formerly, on a daily basis, Drew and I go out in the county

The houses look run down and abandoned as if no one has lived there for ages. The tin shacks gave me remissions back to Haiti. The voice of my mother keeps coming back to me, “You stay away from people who practice voodoo! They are nothing but trouble!” she would say. I am now starting to regret coming out here, because the next thing I see is a massive stature of Christ holding a bible with a dagger through it. I have read all the stories and heard all the rumors about this statue in the village, but they do not compare to seeing this in person. This has to be the work of dark …show more content…
The next thing I know I see a tall, skinny, dark man coming from out of the church in the back of the property – “WASH HARRIS!” I yelled. I turn to run away, but I find myself frozen in my tracks. I look to my left and then to my right, and Drew is nowhere to be found. The only thing I can hear at this point is my beating heart racing as fast as it can. The worst of all, the dark figure begins to speak. He tells me I am forever haunted for coming here and there will be a spell put on my family until the end of time. I look around to try and find my escape, but now there are people all around me chanting in a language I do not understand. Smoke begins to cover the sky. I feel my face becoming hot as if it was being burned. The voices are becoming louder and shockingly, then I notice they are saying phrases in Haitian Creole, my native tongue. “Stay with us,” they would say. I feel as if there is nothing a can do, but at the same time a bright flash is in my face and I can no longer see or hear anything other than a loud ringing in my ear. The light begins to dim and I recognize the ceiling tiles above me. I am now returning in my laboratory with Drew standing over me asking me if I am okay. I feel confused - I thought savages trying to sacrifice me to the evil spirits of Voodoo were just attacking me! Drew calms me down and tells me that we never even made it out

For two weeks, I stayed in Charleston, South Carolina. I didn’t know much about the place, except that I referred to it as an army town because that’s where my sister and her husband, who was in the military, stayed. I was reluctant to go, but Charleston had a lot to offer me; a new change of pace and some new scenery was much more satisfying than spending the two weeks stuck in Iowa doing the same old routine. The weather was mystical in Charleston.…

I grew up hearing stories about the fun times that he had here, and anytime we came to Statesboro he would take me around campus and show me his old dorm, apartment, and class buildings. My favorite story to listen to him tell is about the watermelon that would be cut and given out to all of the students. I fell in love with the school in his stories, and when I was given the chance to choose, I picked Georgia Southern. I duel enrolled at Georgia Southern for two years before I was enrolled as an official college student.…

The sky is blue, morning blue, when the sun is just rising, at about 6 o’clock. The chilly Autumn morning made me feel safe as I peered out the dew lined window. Leaves blew across the street, yet not too many because it's early in the season. Its nice to look out, seeing the smoke come out of the chimneys from the warm homes where everyone is asleep this sunday morning. Then out of the corner of my eye, amongst the beautiful fall scenery and warm houses was a guy, creeping out the back mill door.…
