In “How to Write with Style,” by Kurt Vonnegut, Vonnegut explains the importance of having a strong writing style, the reason being is that newspaper reporters and technical writers don’t show their personality in their writing. One idea Vonnegut outlined is to find a topic the writer finds very passionate about. Another important Vonnegut explains is to keep the writing simple. Vonnegut clarifies to take out information to understand the subject or topic, who is being written about. Vonnegut also mentions sounding like yourself, by not using big vocabulary that yourself won’t understand. Lastly, Vonnegut mentions that writers should be compassionate towards the reader, because most readers won’t understand what the writer is trying to address, because of big vocabulary and punctuation all over in the text. The last fourteen weeks in English-98 students have to overview multiple methods of having effective writing which includes, punctuation, compound-complex sentences, joining sentenced, and much more. This essay will compare and contrast several ideas outlined in “How to Write with Style,” and writing tactics from English-98. …show more content…
In English-98, and Vonnegut’s article both state that when writing an essay not to ramble because there are times when the writer goes off topic when rambling making it difficult for readers to understand what they are reading. In addition, another idea both Vonnegut’s article and English-98 explain is that when finish working on an essay make sure to have it revise, so that it makes sense and cut out information that is not needed. Also, English-98 and Vonnegut’s article both state that writers should sound like themselves, meaning that when trying to explain a situation in their essay try going with words that explain the scenario
