Volunteers of America better known as VOA, is a nonprofit organization located in over 400 communities in 46 states as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. VOA has over a hundred human service programs including housing, healthcare, and behavioral health organizations. Since 1896, VOA has supported at risk youths, the frail elderly, men and women returning from prison, the homeless, recovering addicts, and people with disabilities. Roughly about, 55,000 people donated to the agency to help the program deliver a life-changing service. On Tuesday afternoon I called the agency located at 2001 welsh road, in Philadelphia, PA, to interview an employee. It was just about twelve when the employee and I began our interview. The employee said, “Hello, what did you say your name was again? What kind of questions are they, and how long would it take?” I reiterated that my name was Jiaya Upchurch-Robinson, and informed him that the questions would not take to long. He asked if I could call back in fifteen minutes, and to ask to speak with Isaiah King. I gave him about a half hour until I called back, and once someone answered I asked for an employee by the name of Isaiah King. Luckily he was the person to answer the phone, so we got straight to the questions.

Volunteers of America stood out to me because I thought it was a volunteering organization. However, after interviewing an employee there I was informed that they are paid employees. The questions I asked were very clear and some of his answers could have been a little more detailed. After doing some research on their website, the mission that he said and the one on the Internet was nothing alike. The mission in the Internet says, “Volunteers of America is a movement organized to reach and uplift all people and bring them to the knowledge and active service of God”. (About Us. N.p., n.d. Web.) However, not once during our interview did he mention God. My thoughts were maybe overtime things have changed in this program. This assignment was very interesting and in fact may have helped me get a new job
