Volunteering Student Involvement

Improved Essays
My most meaningful involvement in a student organization was when I was in Gator EMS (Emergency Medical Service). In this organization, all the members were required to have an EMR (Emergency Medical Responder) certification and used the certification to volunteer at sporting events such as swimming meets and 5k runs held at my undergraduate university. While working toward my certification, I acquired knowledge and skills necessary for the assisting people in emergency situations. Gator EMS provided a sense of community and camaraderie that I was able to translate into my volunteering. Having the task of providing care for potentially injured at injured athletes gave me a sense of responsibility and aided my growth and maturation of character.

Researching nontraditional students allowed me to capture the thoughts and feelings of these students in regards to involvement outside of the classroom. This research will give the campus an opportunity to reach out to this student population when planning events and take into consideration some of the challenges faced by non-traditional students. Student organizations on campus can also learn how to increase participation and membership in the organization from the non-traditional student. The overall goal is to give the nontraditional students a voice and allow administrators the opportunity to further support this student group.…

As Community Service Chair, I am in charge of finding volunteer opportunities, making sure that all the pledges are able to attend the event, and recording the service hours for each pledge. In addition to being a leader for my pledge group, I was able to associate with other members who have the same academic interest as me which is a great way to network. Being a pledge for Delta Sigma Pi has helped me reduce the stress I feel in my classes because I was able to get academic assistance on classes that I am struggling on. I helped out the STEM academy by explaining people about the experiments, the purpose behind the experiments and cleaned or organized lab equipment. I was a part of the STEM academy for approximately three years in high school and I really enjoyed it because I knew I could make a difference in my community.…
