Volunteering has always been an important part of my life. Helping people and making their lives at least somewhat better has always been an interest of mine. I have seen first-hand how unfortunate some people are compared to me. I have volunteered in bake sales, libraries and even a food bank trying to help people who were dealing with physical limitations. Just last year I sold chocolate for HOSA to help donate money to Susan G. Komen. Memorial Hermann-TMC will be able to give me an experience that will have a significant impact in my life, and with my experience and interest in the medical field, I should be chosen over other potential applicants for the summer program.
Being chosen for a program such as this, will instill the knowledge and confidence in me that I would not be able to get in a classroom or from a book. As of now, I am taking Anatomy & Physiology II and even though I am learning a lot about the human body, I would value any opportunity that I could have being taught at a hospital rather than out of a book or in a

From the time I was little, I have made it my life goal to become a doctor. I have always admired doctors for having to handle the responsibility of having someone’s life in their hands. My mom is has been an RN for many years and has been encouraging me to pursue the medical field since I was little. Even now, my dad is trying to go back to school to make the switch from medicine. Memorial Hermann-TMC’s summer program will allow me to work side by side with people who I someday want to become. I want to establish a connection with at least one doctor so that he/she will be able to give me help and advice for my future. I want to be able to help as many people as I can and volunteering at the hospital would, at least, give me direct contact with whoever I’m helping. Making patients’ lives even somewhat better would be worth the effort in providing care for

Since my second semester at UT, I have devoted 15 hours a week to volunteering as a Young Life leader. Every week I help run a club meeting for dozens of high school kids, manage a planning meeting with my teammates, and lead a small group for sophomore girls. I spend hours at St. Stephen’s Episcopal School watching games and performances, and simply getting to know these young adults. Through investing this time to build relationships as a mentor and role model, I strove to show these girls that they are significant, noticed and valued. Volunteering as a Young Life leader has taught me invaluable lessons in building relationships, caring for others, and working with a team that will help me to be a more supportive and productive physician…

I want to bring compelling visions to the group and help motivate and inspire them to help deliver that vision.…

It is a known fact, that all medical students must have volunteer medical missions on their resume to make them an ideal candidate for residency positions. This grasped a lot of student’s attention and encouraged them to join. Our main goal as an organization was to “Reduce fear and increase trust” as Hamal (2009) emphasizes in his article. This was a stressed idea, because a joining member should be able to understand who and what they are getting themselves into, especially in medical school, which requires a lot of time invested into studying, so wasting time was not an option. An average member also doesn’t like to be overwhelmed by too many rules and regulations.…

I started the social work program at Oakland University in 2013 at that time my goal was to obtain my BSW with a minor in child welfare. My other goal was to work for the D.H.H.S in child protection services. I never thought about going further in my education mostly because I am a much older student and the amount of debt already accumulated seems slightly overwhelming. The other reason is my age itself, or at least it was. When starting out I let my age become a negative and always felt somewhat out of place.…
