Importance Of Volunteering

Volunteering is a great act of kindness. It involves caring, loving, and sharing of our time, our heart, and our soul. I believe volunteering makes a person feel empowered because we made someone else 's life better or we helped our community in some way. Volunteering also shows that we are generous, compassionate, and good-hearted because we are kind enough to give up a few hours of our time and put it into the community. It is a way of helping others without expecting anything in return. I believe that everyone should give back to their community because volunteering not only makes us feel better as a person but it also helps the people who really need it. It gives me a sense of self-worth, like what I did actually matters, and it does. In …show more content…
"www.volunteermatch.org" is the best website that I have found so far. I type in my address and it gives me all of the opportunities near me. Also, on the sidebar, it shows the different kinds of volunteering we can do. For someone who is good in construction, like my boyfriend, there are jobs to do with construction like disaster relief or helping to install fire detectors. My mom, however, loves to bake, so on occasion, she likes to volunteer to serve food or cook in the homeless shelter. We can even volunteer to work fundraisers, or help out in parades; kind of like when we were kids. We had festivals or fundraisers to help raise money for school. In this case, however, it is for the less fortunate, but either way, it is just as easy and just as worth it. I am aspiring to be a traveling nurse so anything and everything is exciting to me in the medical field. I love volunteering and I really want to start working in the hospital, so I, personally, prefer to volunteer in the hospital. Of course, it is not as glamorous as I hope to one day be, but I get to help others while also pursuing my dreams. I run things from the cafeteria around the hospital, I stock supplies in closets, but also in the gurneys, or even get patients water and/or blankets. Pretty much, I just help with the little things with the nurses and help the patients have a …show more content…
They have a very helpful website, http://eightdaysofhope.com/. I first volunteered with this charity when I was going to Hope Church. I was in the 7th/8th-grade youth group when we were given the option to volunteer. It was after a tornado, at the time, so we helped clean up and fix a house that had been damaged. We worked all day each time I went and got a lot done. Not only was it fun being with my friends helping, but it was actually fun knowing how happy someone was going to be once they saw this house. I loved it, helping someone who really needed it. They were so grateful for our help, and after that, I was in love with helping people. Being so selfless and helping someone in need really put a sense of fulfillment in my heart, it was all because of that charity. "We love it when a homeowner shares their Eight Days of Hope story! We are good but we are not that good BUT God is great! He alone is responsible for all of this! To God be the glory! Love this family! ‪#‎8DOH‬ ‪#‎LoveGodLoveOthers‬. ' Every time I come over the hill and pull into my driveway, I 'm reminded how much God has blessed me. He gave Godly servants and great friends ... He then brought Steve Tybor and Eight Days of Hope in to help ... was blown away by their love and desire to help someone they had never even met. And then one amazing volunteer after another showed up, some local friends and family, but most complete

I volunteered at the Forest Mall for the Tootsie Roll Drive. This organization provides service for those people with intellectual disabilities. What I physically did while volunteering at the Forest Mall was hand out Tootsie Rolls outside to the people that donated money. I also would kindly ask people to donate as they came in or out of the mall. I kept a kind and loving smile on my face to welcome anyone who was willing to donate.…

For our civic engagement project for the Redefining Leadership class, my group, Stephanie, Hailee, Christina, and I, decided to volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House in New Haven, Connecticut on a Thursday. Before we got there, we did not know what to expect, but afterwards, we truly felt grateful that we helped out a great cause. The Ronald McDonald House is a charity house that keeps families close to their family members that are being treated at a nearby hospital. We spoke with someone who works at the House and she told us that eight families were there on that day. We were able to see some people and did what we could to help out.…

I would like to share with you the beginning of my experience with volunteering at Shalom East. I will be working in the hospice center and visiting with the patients in their last moments of their life. This is not going to be an easy job for me but when I found out about the opportunity I knew it was something I needed to do. I have a large heart and feel compelled to give what I can to perfect strangers in their time of need. I would want someone to do the same for me.…

I volunteered in the recovery room of a hospital for 6 months earlier this year. I was primarily shadowing the nurses as they prepared the patients for transition to the regular rooms. `I also took down results, helped patients get food/drug items they needed, help transport them around the hospital and provided general support to the nursing staff. This was my first experience with volunteering, and it showed me how beneficial it is to not think about myself but help others, while becoming more immersed in my chosen field. On the other hand, it also made me realize that it would be more rewarding to volunteer in a setting with even less available…

Like the average American, the United States Military and the Red Cross have a special bond, but to a service man or women, this bond is much more. Throughout the history of the International Red Cross Society and the American Red Cross, the need to help military members in a time of need has always been one of its major mission and vision statements. Although there are many ugly faces to war, the birth of the Red Cross came from the need to help those during these times or struggle and sacrifice. The American Red Cross helps members of the military, veterans and their families prepare for, cope with, and respond to, the challenges of military service (Military Families , n.d.). Like the members serving in the Armed Forces, the members…

Furthermore, in addition to this study providing an in depth view into what factors contribute to college students volunteering, this particular study also gave exclusive statistics on the various age ranges that contribute the most to a volunteering effort at their institution of higher learning. It also gave insight into which age group that does not typically volunteer at their specific institution for higher learning.…

It shows who you are as a person and reflects the positive character traits you have. Relay for life is a life-changing event that allows everyone in communities across the globe to come together to honor cancer survivors, remember loved ones, and help fight back. Relay for life has allowed me to encounter many people who all share a common purpose — to support the American Cancer Society's mission. This event made me realize that everyone can make a difference and that every person counts.…

If only there would have been more people volunteering, then so much more people could have been helped. And if more people can be help, then the suffering on earth can be ease. The big problem is that everyone is so busy with their personal life that they forget about the importance of helping others. A positive aspect I saw was that those who were already volunteering were really dedicated and kind hearted. I believe they are making a big impact on every person they touched and made it a task to spread their kindness.…

An elderly woman who got to take part in a high school community service project states, “Many think that volunteering is all about what you give. But what catches you by surprise is how much you receive in return.” This demonstrates why many people do not feel that they should give back because they do not believe the benefits that they can get from it as well. Consequently, when creating that feeling of happiness and satisfaction in someone else’s life, it comes back to the person creating it. Volunteering to help someone get tutored, help the handicapped, involve themselves with a program like Meals on Wheels, certain environmental work, etc., not only does one gain from that, but one’s community has been helped because of them.…

When I was in middle school I was part of a church group called Pathfinders; and being a part meant that every holiday the group would do volunteer work for the community. Around thanksgiving we would collect food, walking door to door, and later give it to a local food kitchen. And around Christmas time there would be a toy collection for families in need. Having this past experience under my belt, it motivated me to volunteer my time with other students from Kean at the local food pantry. Another reason why I chose this volunteer work was because the other options did stick out to me as so impactful as this one.…
