It was also helpful when applying to internships because you can use examples from your volunteer experience during your interview. For example, I was able to say in my interview that I can think on the spot because during my time at Riverfront the staff occasionally wouldn’t show up for programs so I would have to think of an art and craft as soon as I arrived. Next, the volunteer experience has made me a more well-rounded person and has helped me understand what population I enjoy working with. Everyone has a niche and through volunteering, you can learn what population you most connect with. Third, I have become more comfortable and open working with people with disabilities.…

As Jeff Miller once said, “The willingness of America’s Veterans to sacrifice for our country has earned them our lasting gratitude.” Veterans from every country have served throughout many wars. They have put their blood, sweat, and effort into doing the right and beneficial thing for their nation. Being a veteran means not only to serve in the military, but it means to have the selflessness and courage to go off to war to ensure the freedom of the nation.…

However, that still leaves three other areas. First is the area of Leadership. I have been entrusted by my peers to serve in various leadership positions both in the school and through other activities that I am involved with, which range from Class President to serving as a member of the school's Peer Leader Team.…

I was primarily shadowing the nurses as they prepared the patients for transition to the regular rooms. `I also took down results, helped patients get food/drug items they needed, help transport them around the hospital and provided general support to the nursing staff. This was my first experience with volunteering, and it showed me how beneficial it is to not think about myself but help others, while becoming more immersed in my chosen field. On the other hand, it also made me realize that it would be more rewarding to volunteer in a setting with even less available…

An elderly woman who got to take part in a high school community service project states, “Many think that volunteering is all about what you give. But what catches you by surprise is how much you receive in return.” This demonstrates why many people do not feel that they should give back because they do not believe the benefits that they can get from it as well. Consequently, when creating that feeling of happiness and satisfaction in someone else’s life, it comes back to the person creating it. Volunteering to help someone get tutored, help the handicapped, involve themselves with a program like Meals on Wheels, certain environmental work, etc., not only does one gain from that, but one’s community has been helped because of them.…
