America is the "land of the free". We choose our politicians, our own homes, food to eat, etc. After years of letting citizens decide what's best for them, why should we let the government decide what we do for "volunteer" work; and how long we "volunteer" for. Volunteering is supposed to come from the heart, we volunteer because we want to help. If peolpe are told where to go and what to do, it might as well be called your job. Volunteering versus an actual job sounds like it's just all work and no reward, but people feel a sense of dignity, and pride knowing that they made a difference. I used to volunteer at a recreational center, doing custodial work. It's not like I fed starving children in 3rd world countries, but maintaining
