A perfect way to do this is by requiring all majors to have classes that require volunteering hours every semester and to start their internship programs during sophomore year instead of senior year. That way, if students decide to change their majors after volunteering or doing their internship they won’t have gone through almost all the major requirements before they realize that whatever major their studying is not for them. Especially with Social Work, a profession that requires a lot of understanding about the behavior of others. Not everyone has the knowledge and ability to help others with their problems. Most people barely even know how to solve theirs. The main purpose of a social worker is to make other’s lives easier. Whether is psychologically speaking or just about monetary issues. Every person is unique and has different needs, the only real way to know how to help each and every one of them is through experience. Experience on knowing to talk to them so they feel you’re there to help them and not to cause more problems, and the most important type of experience is the one to actually knowing what to do in order to help them.
