I volunteered at the Forest Mall for the Tootsie Roll Drive. This organization provides service for those people with intellectual disabilities. What I physically did while volunteering at the Forest Mall was hand out Tootsie Rolls outside to the people that donated money. I also would kindly ask people to donate as they came in or out of the mall. I kept a kind and loving smile on my face to welcome anyone who was willing to donate.…

I think the more people volunteer for certain causes the less we will have these issues. One example is hunger and homelessness. I believe if we had more efforts and volunteers, our communities could join together and help those in need of food and shelter. Something as simple as volunteering in our local soup kitchen or volunteering at shelters can make a difference in our community.…

Following training, I commenced my role as a hands-on-care volunteer at DFCI. I currently provide cancer patients with hand massage as they undergo their infusion. IVs are often placed in various regions of the hand so I learn to adapt to differing circumstances to maximize the care and relaxation each patient receives.…

We can see the importance of having nonprofit organizations because they provide the needy with shelters, food, clothing, and valuable information. Also, we can see that the knowledge learned throughout this course will be extremely valuable in the future because we will use this knowledge everyday in our career. Although when I first started volunteering, I was extremely scared that I would learn anything, but I have learned a lot over the last couple months.…

One of the activities I do that is substantial to me is volunteering as a Kettle Host during Winter for the Salvation Army. Through Christmas Kettles, I collect donations from the society to help give back to the less fortunate in our community. What volunteering for the Salvation Army has taught me is that even the smallest effort can make a tremendous impact. When I first started off as a volunteer, I did not feel motivated enough to believe what I was doing would truly have an impact. I had this mindset which led me to believe that the happenings in our community did not concern me, although, I began to have a change of opinion as I kept volunteering.…

I volunteered in the recovery room of a hospital for 6 months earlier this year. I was primarily shadowing the nurses as they prepared the patients for transition to the regular rooms. `I also took down results, helped patients get food/drug items they needed, help transport them around the hospital and provided general support to the nursing staff. This was my first experience with volunteering, and it showed me how beneficial it is to not think about myself but help others, while becoming more immersed in my chosen field. On the other hand, it also made me realize that it would be more rewarding to volunteer in a setting with even less available…

To fully understand volunteerism, it is defined as any act or service that people do even if they are not obliged to do so (Whittaker, McLennan, & Handmer, 2015). According to Bortree & Waters (2014), volunteerism has a positive impact on people’s wellbeing and career. The people that do the act of volunteerism, or the volunteers are considered one of the most important assets a nonprofit organization has (Herman, 2005). And volunteers tend to contribute their services because of the benefits that they would receive. This is supported by Bortree & Waters (2014) saying that through volunteerism, people’s skills and connections can be strengthened and built.…
