Martin Luther King Junior once stated, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, what are you doing for others?” Volunteering has made me realize that this really is an important and urgent question you should ask yourself, because volunteering is good for you as well as those that you assist. For instance, it was an extraordinarily good feeling for me to volunteer at the Unionville Community Bike Drive. Over a series of months we collect, clean, repair, deliver, and then distribute around 100 bikes to those in need in the community. Being part of a diverse team of people whose main goal is to have a positive impact on the community was energizing. Thirteen years of swim team experience and a desire to service others has made this job ideal for me. Lifeguarding has encouraged me to learn skills dealing with keeping your calm, and applying confidence and determination within each challenge.
