Unfortunately, my volunteer hours at Reading Partners are being cut, due to events that are being offered for the school, and there is no way of making up the hours. So in order to make the 72 hours I have made the choice of waiving my hours, and doing it at the Y where I work.If there was any way I could make up the hours that are going to be missed then I would have stayed. Yet, there are so many tutors that I am not needed for make up sessions. I believe that this will be a great social work experience because I work hand and hand with children from the age of six weeks to twelve years. I get the experience of working with children from different background ranging from race, and social class, and how that effects them. This is a great service we offer because many parents do not have the money to pay for a gym, and day care so it gives them the time to try to stay healthy. So being employed here I watch the Y client’s children. In the time of the one and a half hours I either help feed, play, talk and do arts and crafts with the children. At many times we have to clam down the children because their parent leaving is horrible to them. Another thing that the Y offers is a class that is called 1,2,3 grow which I help instruct. 1,2,3 grow is a class for infants to toddlers that helps them develop their motor skills. We set out floor mats, balance beams, steps, slides, and other objects children can climb on. We also encourage the parents to stay during the class so they can bond with their child. We also do sing alongs, story time, obstacle course, and parashoot. I find this great experience to social work because now I am having interactions with not only children, but parents as well. I think the clients that are
