Volkmann Argumentative Essay

There are many treatment ideas that we can use in order to help treat our patient’s who have Volkmann’s contracture.
We can make a custom orthosis/splint fabrication. The common splint that is used for Volkmann’s contracture is a resting hand splint. (Which looks like this…) As you can see, the wrist is in neutral with the digits extended and the thumb slightly abducted. This is a more natural way for an extremity to rest. A good part about making a custom splint is that you can contour it to the patient’s hand and then once they begin to improve, the you can adjust the splint to get a better stretch and improve ROM in the patient’s digits.
We also want to provide scar management to the patient’s during treatment. Depending on the type of surgery that they have, it could leave them with a scar and eventually lead to built up scar tissue underneath the skin.

This would be if a patient was fully ready to possible return to work. We was to preform a work station evaluation to determine if their work life will be safe after recovery.
Also, we want to teach our patients how to preform self body mechanics at home. We want to teach them how to preform manual massage so that they can increase blood flow to the extremity and also alleviate any pain that they may have. We always want to teach them to massage up toward to heart in order to push the fluid out of their
