Vladimir Tarasenko has been deemed as an elite shooter, now he is proving it through the stats in his ice hockey career. He is on the St. Louis Blues, and is a right winger, who has the most points on his team. He is from a city in Russia, called Yaroslavl, where he first learned how to play the sport of ice hockey. This is his sixth season with the St. Louis Blues and his sixth season in the National Hockey League.

Vladimir Tarasenko was born in Yaroslavl, Russia (The Soviet Union collapsed that year), on December thirteenth, 1991. He is the son of a former Russian hockey star named, Andrei Tarasenko, that played 21 seasons professionally, Tarasenko and his brother Valentin moved in with his grandparents, after his parents divorced, and lived with them from being a baby to eleven years old. His grandpa was the coach of a local soccer school but quit to spend more time with Vladimir. He took him skating for the first time and watched him fall on his first try. His grandpa tried to pick the young boy up, but was turned away. “ “I tell him, ‘Hey, don’t touch me because I can go by myself,’” Tarasenko recalled. “I was this type of guy, I don’t need your help. Then I go and fall right away. I was like, ‘I need your help probably.’” “(Post).

“ “So me and my grandpa every night go to outdoor rink to skate for like two hours and practice. My grandparents tell me, ‘You can be a hockey player but if you miss school you’re never going to get it back.’” (St. Louis Post Dispatch). His grades improved a lot, he got straight A’s, which is a 5 in Russia, the highest one could achieve. But his team was losing matches by more than twenty points. He looked up to his father who competed in the 1994 Winter Olympics, for Russia, but his grandparents always wanted the young boy to be better than him.
