Autobiographical memory, sometimes termed personal memory, is a combination of episodes recollected from an individual's life. When considered collectively, autobiographical memories serve as the basis for a person's life story. These memories help form a person's sense of identity and self-image. Autobiographical memory is quite distinct from the memorizing of words, pictures and lists that have traditionally been studied in laboratory settings.…
When I was pregnant with all my children I would be filled with anticipation with what will they look like and who will they be with they grow up. But the sad part of this anticipation is wishing past every stage of their development to see the adult they will become. I often wonder if my mom thought the same things when she was pregnant with me and I wonder if she likes what she sees now that I am an…

I had been living with my grandpa most of my childhood because my biological mother had been very sick she had been going in and out of the hospital because she was diagnosed with Huntington disease so she was going in and out of the hospital for…
Essentially, the research suggested that children suffer from Childhood amnesia and were in general not able to remember events that occurred before the age of seven due to the increase of new cells in the hippocampus called neurogenesis. This neurogenesis in the hippocampus created newer and more efficient networks that overwrite these old childhood memories. The early brain of a child is working, in that they are storing memories, but it is not as efficient as an adult brain is at storing memories. Therefore, the natural process of making their brains more mature and efficient overrides the old childhood memories and hence you get childhood amnesia. They also suggested that early memories that are remembered later in life are memories that…
Many soldiers don't have time to examine their emotions when they are in the middle of a war zone and after experiencing a traumatic event. In a way or another, they are kind pushing these feelings, emotions and thoughts to a deeper place in their mind to examine them later. As these soldiers repress their emotions to later, and when later comes, they try to avoid taking about their repressed thoughts because of the pain these memories bring with. In an article published by Psychology Today, we learn that recovering from a traumatic experience requires that the painful emotions be thoroughly processed. Trauma feelings cannot be repressed or forgotten.…
Tulving’s persuasive theory of the two propositional memory types: Episodic and Semantic, have been pivotal in the research and study of Long-Term Memory for over four decades (Brown, Creswell, & Ryan, 2016). Semantic memory provides us with the memory needed for the use of language, whereas episodic memory focuses on the autobiographical events that can be explicitly recalled. There are many differences in these two memory sub-types that further differentiate them from one another. In addition to the differences between these two declarative memory types, we will also discuss the evidence for the distinction between episodic and semantic memory, both behaviorally and with the brain. Episodic memory is a type of memory that is associated…
Nostalgia Nostalgia has been seen as an emotion sparked by music. Constructs that contribute to nostalgic experiences can be divided into both context- level and person- level. Context level constructs signify aspects of a person’s relationship and attributes of a persons experience while listening to a particular song. This may include how well-known the piece is or to what level the song is linked with personal reminiscence. On the other hand, person- level constructs suggest the individualistic dissimilarities between listeners, which can include their personality traits (Barrett et al. 2010).…
Speculate as to why emotional trauma can result in memory loss. Include in your speculation your ideas regarding each of the major aspects of trauma discussed in class, including emotional overwhelm, stress, repressed memory, intrusive thoughts and the impact of emotion on the memory process. We all experience stress or trauma at some times in our lives and our minds process this in a certain way. When something frightening, shocking, sad or dangerous happens to us, our bodies and minds process the experience by having a reaction. Some people have the sensation of complete shock and are unable to understand what is occurring.…
The significant life events that are pertinent to my infancy and childhood stages include ethnic and cultural differences, the effects of birth order and family size, the social aspects of play with peers and school environment, and unplanned pregnancy in adolescence. Ethnic and cultural differences is significant during these stages because I grew up in a family that is mostly Hispanic. A Hispanic family places significance on a common language of Spanish, family relationships, and gender roles. When I was growing up English was mainly spoken in the household, but learning the Spanish language was highly emphasized by my grandmother. Family relationships were very important especially maintaining relationships with extended family members and strict gender roles were expressed within the household.…
After reviewing the topic about a child’s brain and how it is the most complex thing on earth. One thing immediately came to mind: Languages. I have been fascinated with how newborns and small children learn languages, and how they can master them just by listening and hearing. I have taught English as a second language for many years, and worked with children who speak multiple languages without diligence. At one point, I was so impressed seeing these children speak them fluently, but then I realized; I went through exactly the same thing.…
One can rearrange pieces of their memory, both good and bad, and make their past into what they want others to understand and believe about themselves. One can also use past memories to reflect who they are today. Patricia Hampl, an American memoirist and poet, wrote an article titled “Memory and Imagination,” in which she recalls her first piano lesson. In her recollection, she soon discovers that the way she believed things had happened and the way she explained them may not have actually been the way they occurred.…
Early Recollection technique is an assessments procedure that is used by Adlerian counselors. During the early recollection technique individuals are asked to recall specific stories of events that occurred before the age of ten years old. The Client is asked to recall as many events as they can, however, between three to six events will be used for the assessment. The individual is also asked to recall any emotion or thought that accompanied the specific event. Once the event is recalled the clients are asked to provide a one liner or what is known as a “news headline” for each event.…
When one thinks of memory, they usually think of past events that happened or something that they had learned. Although one can recall certain memories, can they recall every single detail? This semester, we were asked to recall the events of a day that happened six weeks prior to the beginning of class. While some students could explain some details of what they had done that day, not all could be certain. Details may not seem to be that important when telling a story from a childhood experience or maybe the retelling of a joke, but what if a person was made to recall a memory that took place six weeks ago?…
1. I encourage the promotion of physical health and athletic skill for your child. Emerging motor skills or any skills at a young age should not be a problem as long as developing those skills does not become the sole focus in forming a child. Parents should engage children equally in their cognitive, social, and physical abilities for maximum benefit to the child. All of these attributes are interconnected and play a vital role in the progress of each other.…
