Vivaldi Four Seasons

After listening to a few of the symphonies we were able to choose from once I heard The Four Seasons I knew that was the one for me. Although I really enjoyed some of the others I had a personal connection to this peace as I used to listen to it before soccer matches to calm my nerves. The Four Seasons was composed by a chamber orchestra which was led by the stunning Janine Jansen as the lead violinist. From the best that I could tell this chamber was filled with one bass, 3 cellos, a few violas and around 10 violens. The Four seasons is a polyphonic piece and was written by the great Antonio Vivaldi and is the best known work of his. Vivaldi named his piece “The Four Seasons” because he wanted to emulate the sounds he heard in nature. …show more content…
1 was played in the E major. At the very beginning of the piece there is a perfect example of allegro when the orchestra starts out completely silent then after a few minutes of playing at (3:32) you can really get a good feel of the change in dynamics when it shifts to pianissimo. As Concerto No. 1 gets closer to its end at the six minute mark allegro is used as the orchestra picks up pace and increases in volume very swiftly. I believe that the hopeful and happy melody of Concerto No. 1 represents the Season of Spring because the upbeat tempo could give the listener the image of leaves coming back on the trees. Concerto No.2 was fairly similar to No. 1 but was meant to represent the season of Summer. Unlike No. 1 Concerto No.2 was played in the G minor scale. The melody of this concerto was staccato because of the short, fast, and un smooth playing of the music. Concerto No. 2 being played in Staccato gave the listener a feeling of excitement. My last note for Concerto No. 2 is that at the end there is a dramatic increase in speed which has the violinists playing as swiftly as they can which would be an example

Two musicians at the time were Beethoven and Chopin. Their pieces expressed emotion and many of them connected to nature. Beethoven’s “Symphony No.6” was inspired by a hike; in it, his music portrays different parts of nature such as thunderstorms and flowing rivers. Chopin’s “Prelude in Db Major,” symbolizes nature by portraying raindrops. In addition to musicians, the painters of the Romantic era were also very expressive.…

Juxtaposition is where the music is placed together to give a contrast effect. There are two main instances of juxtaposition, which Bach used in his composition. First one is simultaneous juxtaposition is where the two voices play at the same time and can be heard as two contrasting sound. Bach registered this mostly on his organ pieces, which many of the other composers did not do that much. He also used the simultaneous juxtaposition for an instrumental ensemble.…

1 in D major, “Titan,” was performed next. It was much longer in duration than the first piece. It showed uniqueness in that it incorporated everyday sounds into the music, such as bulge calls, bird songs, and dance tunes, which provided for a very wide variety of tone colors. The symphony began with a thick-textured undertone in the strings and a two-note “hunting call” in the woodwinds, which persisted throughout the piece. Also present was a bright fanfare in the trumpets, followed by a light descending melody played by the entire orchestra.…

Today, I’m going to talk about the 1st movement & second movement of Brandenburg Concerto No.2. Brandenburg Concertos were written by Bach, while he worked at Cothen. Baroque Concerto is a small group of soloists pitted against a larger group of players called tutti, which consists mainly the string instruments, with a harpsichord as a basso continuo. 1st movement of this concerto is in ritornello form whereas the 2nd movement is a modified fugue.…

All three musical pieces consisted of unique characteristics, but I must say my favorite and the most memorable one is, Concerto No.1 in B-flat major, K. 207 with Hsuan- Hao Hsu on the violin. The downbeat, instantly caught the audience’s attention, bringing focus to the tempo and to its upbeat and joyful theme.
