Embryo Splitting Essay

In Vitro Fertilization has helped millions of producers produce their ideal calf or close to that ideal calf. Whether chosen for phenotype, genotype, EPDs, or show ring appeal, IVF hasn’t been far from the picture. Before having a flush performed the producer should know the facts, and about the steps for ET and have a donor and sire chosen to use on that donor. Selecting a genetically outstanding cow is something that is always looked at. Other things that are perceived are show ring appeal, performance records (EPDs) or both. When a donor is to be flushed she is superovulated. When she is superovulated she produced several more viable oocytes that will turn into an embryo. When the donor is being flushed during a conventional flush she is …show more content…
Embryo splitting is a procedure that takes time and delicacy. Embryo splitting is used for the production of identical calves that will have the exact phenotype and genotype. The embryos that are going to be split are collected after they have grown in the donor for seven days. After the Embryos are collected they are mated with semen and incubated for seven days. Embryos are splitted at the morula and early blastocyst stages of their development. during this each embryo is organized into a tight ball of a cell, which still makes it capable of growing into a normal …show more content…
According to Trans Ova Genetics, and Iowa State University,The risk while using IVF is very low, but there are a few. Aspirations are invasive procedures that can cause bleeding and severe infections. This can create the development of ovarian adhesions. Bleeding of the uterus caused by aspiration may cause the death of the donor. Also because it involves manipulation of the reproductive organs, a pregnancy may be lost if the donor is pregnant. Although most donors do very well with IVF, some donors will not succeed with IVF and could get any viable embryos to freeze or

Many teenage women who have gotten abortions, are more likely to have cervical damage because their cervixes are not fully developed. So, if a woman who has an abortion has a weak cervix, that may lead to an “incompetent cervix”. That woman’s cervix might not be able to carry the weight of another child in another pregnancy. Also, the surgical procedures can lead to infection. Iva Gutowski, author of Effects of Surgical Abortion, explains how infections are rare but if the infection is untreated, it can harm reproductive organs.…

Embryonic stem cells are stem cells that have derived from embryos. It is important to realize that most of the embryonic stem cells have derived in a clinical setting from a fertilized egg. Scientists typically call this process in vitro fertilization. This means that the egg was fertilized in a patria dish instead of a woman’s body. The woman’s eggs are typically donated by a donor whom receives cash advances for her eggs.…

hES cells are isolated from the blastocyst when the inner cell mass is removed and cultured in the lab. Once the hES cells have been isolated, they can continuously grow in a culture dish, containing a nutrient-rich culture medium. When the hES cells replicate and spread over the dish, some of the cells are removed to form a stem cell line. Many hES cells are taken from embryos developed from eggs that have been fertilised outside the woman’s body, which are then donated for research purposes. While hES can form all of the tissues in the body, they cannot form the other tissues that are required for a complete individual to form.…

At this stage in the procedure it is possible for the parents to get genetic testing done to the embryo. This is called preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD), it is especially used when couples know that they have a high chance passing on a genetic disorder. This testing is one of the most debated parts of IVF, and is the main reason why people would be against the treatment. The idea that parents can have testing done to find out the embryo’s genetic makeup and sex before it is implanted into the woman is controversial, some people believe it goes against “God’s plan”. For this kind of testing a single cell is taken from the embryo about three to four days after fertilization and then tested for a wide range of genetic…
