These procedures are so important for couples who would otherwise have no way of becoming pregnant. With infertility being at about ten-percent, in vitro fertilization is becoming a more utilized method of conception. In vitro fertilization is the method to treat infertility with the highest pregnancy rate. It is important to know about the benefits, risks, history, and the methods used in IVF, when it is becoming increasingly more common. The chance of getting …show more content…
There are five basic steps in the IVF procedure. The first step is stimulation, this is where medicines are given to the woman in order to stimulate egg production. These are gonadotrophins that are injected subcutaneously, the follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) is in this injection so that the eggs will mature. Gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists are important in IVF in order to prevent premature ovulation due to FSH. It is important in IVF for the ovulation not to happen early, so that the doctors are able to successfully retrieve the eggs at a planned time. Women will produce several more eggs than normal when receiving these injections. At this stage in the procedure it is possible for the parents to get genetic testing done to the embryo. This is called preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD), it is especially used when couples know that they have a high chance passing on a genetic disorder. This testing is one of the most debated parts of IVF, and is the main reason why people would be against the treatment. The idea that parents can have testing done to find out the embryo’s genetic makeup and sex before it is implanted into the woman is controversial, some people believe it goes against “God’s plan”. For this kind of testing a single cell is taken from the embryo about three to four days after fertilization and then tested for a wide range of genetic

Dr. Edwin Carl Wood was named ‘‘the Father of IVF’’ for pioneering the use of frozen embryos (Kovacs & Leeton, 2011). Wood’s contribution of the cryopreservation method has revolutionized the success rate of IVF. This has altered medical history by providing future gynecologists and obstetricians the opportunity to preserve gametes and embryos of patients. Couples that were sterile (infertile) or have had trouble conceiving now have more options to choose from when considering children.…

cannot be overlooked. With regards to the argument put forward by those who reject the permissibility of assisted reproduction techniques, that such procedures disrupt the natural process of life by interfering with god’s will, it is imperative to note that IVF is by no means a definitive procedure guaranteeing conception. Thus the possibility that the couple will remain infertile, even with IVF treatment, signifies that ultimately, conception of a child is not under human control, but rather, it is subject to God’s decree.…

In Vitro Fertilization or IDF is a reproductive procedure that takes the egg from the fallopian tube. The procedure begins with the doctor stimulating the woman with the follicle stimulating hormones that allow the eggs to ovulate to the fallopian tube, at that moment, the doctors would take the eggs directly from there and insert it into a Petri Dish. Next, the ejaculated sperm, which will be used to fertilize the eggs is inserted into the eggs to form an embryo. Once the embryo is formed, the egg will be inserted into the placenta, where the embryo will hopefully develop into a fetus. However, if the woman fails to produce eggs due to any circumstances such as age that correlates with poor egg production, they will use an egg from another donor, or if…

It was a natural phenomenon. However, with the fact that there is something that offers a solution, even with the low success rate, infertility is now labeled a disease and must be treated. This creates stress on many infertile persons as they (especially women) are forced to endure the risks resulting from society’s increased negative on infertility. IVF has opened the door to genetic modification. With the embryo being outside of the body, physicians are better able to manipulate genes to produce or ‘create’ the perfect child per the desire of the parents.…
