Visualization Simulation Reflection

Improved Essays
Due to having a simulation lab this past week we had preparation to complete before hand. The Visualization and Simulation Center (VSIM) served as training, to prepare us for similar real life scenarios. I was able to use the content we learned in class and connect it to the current simulation I was working on. Following the competition of each online situation I was able to read an evaluation to see where I excelled and where I need to improve upon. The Visualization and Simulation Center (VSIM) is on online program that functions as a teaching tool. There were various scenarios that I had to complete prior to the simulation lab at Saskpolytech. I treated each scenario how I would if the situation were real life. I went through each step in my head from entering the room to introducing myself and then progressed from there. I found this helped me to ensure I did not miss any vital steps while caring for the VSIM patient. I was able to assess and find the main issue and take the necessary steps to provide the care needed to keep both the mother and infant safe. While completing the VSIM scenarios many of the issues that presented we had learned about previously during our Family and Newborn Lecture. Whether it was how to care for a prolapsed cord or monitoring the preeclampsia, we learned about it all. I did …show more content…
The scenarios are all very relevant and could happen anytime while working. The VSIM helped in preparing us for such situations and outlined the correct steps to take. I was able to draw connections between the content learned in class and the necessary steps to take to care for the patients. Following each scenario I was able to read about areas I need to improve upon. Taking into consideration the suggestions and completing each scenario twice has helped prepare me to handle a given situation if it were to present in real

On November 17, 2015, I was able to attend the IPE Campus Activity held in the old gym. This event consists of all health professional students attending Long Island University, Brooklyn Campus. I believe there were close to 500 students that attended the IPE event. The students were separated into teams of various health professions. The group I was part of consisted of three pharmacists, a respiratory care therapist, an occupational therapist, a physical therapist, two nurses, the facilitator (who is a physical therapist as well), and myself with a public health profession.…

The purpose of completing these trainings is for me to understand why certain actions are required in the working environment of Vital connections. Personally I feel this will help me in intervention. Simply because I will understand where a child needs to be mentally and if they are not I will be able to go back and figure out why the child is not up to pare where they need to be in their mental state. I will be able to mark the red flags that may have been ignored during a child’s development and work to bring the child up to speed to the best of my abilities. Overall this was a good week and I feel there is hope in being an intern at Vital Connections.…

I attended the Bertha Strong Stroke Simulation event on March 1, 2016, at the Arizona State University Downtown Phoenix campus held at the Mercado building. I had attended this event in the past thought it would be interesting to compare my experiences. I was surprised to find that my first comparison would be the registration and receipt of materials needed to prepare for the event. It may have been due to familiarity with the process, but the current process seemed more coordinated. The registration process was different; it seems as though the old system had some issues as it has been changed slightly.…

Today’s students come from diverse backgrounds with varied experiences, beliefs and values therefore I believe educators can facilitate learning by engaging this diverse student group using technology and innovative approaches to teaching that is experiential and builds upon essential professional knowledge and develop skills. Students also vary in the way they approach thinking and problem solving. The ability to think critically and make individualized but safe clinical judgments is significant outcome in nursing. Therefore, I believed that educators should assess students’ cognitive development as well as their dispositions and abilities to think critically and make clinical decisions in order to guide students in experiential learning.…

Introduction to the Dental Hygiene profession has been a complete and enjoyable class that set the core all the clinical documentation and protocol to follow here at Fortis college. As part of this class the instructor had create a variety of interactive assignments where students get to experience what it feels when having a real patient in front of them. Such was the clinic observation activity where we, the lower clinic class, had the opportunity to observe how students of a higher class were handling a full clinic section with the help of their high qualified instructors. One of the expectations I had for this activity was that I would be able to see the process of care in action, since the clinician brings the patient to the operatory…

Using the 5 dynamics tool, I discovered several working style characteristics about myself that I really had not previously thought about. The application of this new knowledge will improve the way that I work with other people in my education, my career and in my personal life. For example, I learned that if I partner with others whose strength and weakness are different from mine, working together as a whole we will obtain better results than we will if we work separately. Furthermore, I learned that each team member brings different strengths to the project thereby producing a more balanced result. As a result of taking the 5 dynamics assessment, I discovered that I have valuable strengths that are especially beneficial in developing…
