Good day Professor D’Agostino,

Hopefully you recall that I took the Administration of Financial Resources course (PAD 343 899) this past summer. I did a paper recommending a budget for the Civil Rights Commission of NYS and was also working with your help on my needed accommodations with regards to my visual impairment.

I am considering programs at both John Jay and Baruch colleges, but as you know reference letters are needed as part of the application process. This is why I come to you.

I would have preferred to have asked the following knowing that our experience

Wilmer ophthalmologists are leading experts in the study, diagnosis and treatment of AMD. Because AMD can be relentless in its assault on vision, early diagnosis is critical to begin monitoring for the wet form. Wilmer has led development of studies of automated analysis and detection of this earlier stage, as well as studies evaluating devices that may be used in the home to detect conversion of the drug to wet form before substantial vision loss has occurred, when treatment has the greatest chance to preserve vision. While there is no cure, age-related macular degeneration treatments may prevent severe vision loss or slow the progression of the disease considerably. Several treatment options are available, including: Anti-vascular endothelial…

The article illustrates findings describing separate visual pathways within the cortex that play different roles in interpreting visual information. These visual pathways include the ventral and dorsal streams which elicit visual perception and visual control of action, respectively. An important model for these findings was patient D.F., an individual afflicted with visual form agnosia, resulting in difficulties perceiving visual objects. In determining the origin of this patient's condition, high-resolution anatomical MRI scans were used showing damage in a location that was bilateral to the lateral occipital cortex (LO). More specifically, damage was seen bilateral to patient D.F.'s occipitotemporal visual system, otherwise known as the ventral stream.…

Change in Visual Acuity with Eccentricity Humans have a large vison field so it is important to not only test the central vison but also at the peripherals of the retina. This is because individuals tend to not notice vison loss at the peripherals compared to central vision as when an individual views an object they move their eyes and fixate on that object by using their central vison and not their peripheral. Visual acuity is highest at the fovea and lowest at the peripheral which ensures high visual acuity at fixation. A way to measure peripheral vision is the Humphrey perimetry test which assesses the vision field. Any reduction in peripheral vision can indicate the development of disease such as glaucoma or detect any blind spots, scotomas…
