They are many colors, such as purple (or blue) yellow, brown and black on a white paper. It you can see where the watercolor was used in the painting. The watercolors look very different from the charcoal, the charcoal gives the painting like a type of texture. John Marin used the charcoal in the rocks and also in the parts where he wanted to have an illusion of the boat. If you take a glance at the painting it is like a big mess of colors but if you study the painting you can kind of distinguish that there is a picture of the sea, and the charcoal help to see the boat and see where the sea is getting…

I really wanted to do a comparison of Degas, and Cassatt, like Judith Beheading Holofernes in which both Gentileschi and Caravaggio, I felt since Degas and Cassatt had such a close relationship that was a possibility, but my research turned up nothing. I chose to compare Degas’s After the Bath, Woman Drying Herself, and Cassatt’s Young Mother, Daughter, and Son, since both pieces were created using pastels. Both artist have a wide range of styles in their work, I will focus not on how they measure up as individual artist but strictly compare these two pieces of work. Degas uses a very limited pallet in his piece, except for some blue, the sea is almost monochromatic, with a dramatic use of mark making. Degas’s use of line portrays a wide variety of textures and surfaces, with a dominance of rough texture marks.…

A Storm in the Rocky Mountains, Mt. Rosalie is an oil on canvas painting currently located at the Brooklyn Museum in New York City as part of the museum’s collection of American paintings. Albert Bierstadt created this panoramic painting in New York in 1866. The piece’s accession number at the museum is 76.79. Just as the title indicates, the painting’s subject is a storm in the Rocky Mountains, specifically at the lake valley of Mt. Rosalie and with Native Americans riding horses along the river bank. Through the superb use of formal elements, Bierstadt reflects both the excitement and concerns with Westward Expansion and settlement at the time, urging caution in the U.S.’s interactions with Native Americans and nature.…

The sea is also blue whereas the soil surrounding the construction is synonymous with the soil color in San Francisco. They include the stones near the sea shore, window openings in the construction building, and the topography of the land on the other side of the sea…

Signac used oil on canvas, which is a two-dimensional painting. This specific piece of artwork portrays the Grand Canal entrance in Venice, Italy. It is painted with different pastel colored specks, and pictures numerous gondolas on the water along with important historical buildings. Up close, it is more difficult to understanding the content of the painting because the eye focuses more on the individual specks of color instead of the picture as a complete whole. As you step farther away from the painting, it becomes harder to see the individual specks and easier to interpret the piece as a whole.…

Also, the mixture of warm colors on top combined with primary and secondary colors give the painting a delicate effect particularly the three green brush strokes as it adds even more mystery to the painting. Furthermore, the diagonal lines that shape the floor and the barriers of the bridge and the curved lines on the water make a combination of energy and endlessness at the same time because the side of where the scared looking person is, looks completely different from where the water, which is what perhaps reflects the degree of anxiety that the scared looking person was suffering in that particular…
