Visual Analysis: Oliver Asking For More

Improved Essays
The focal point of the image, ‘Oliver Asking for More,’ is the gentleman standing opposite the other people who are seated. The man attracts the attention at first glance because he looks bigger than the other people in the picture, and his clothes are painted white while the other people have their clothes painted dark. After gazing at the image of the man, my eyes are then attracted to his legs. The legs look bent while he leans on the wall. The attention of the gaze of the legs is based on the eagerness to understand if he naturally has bent legs or the legs appear bent because he is leaning on the wall. From the legs, my eyes then move to the head. It appears that the other people are looking at the man directly while he faces down. This …show more content…
I then realize that the crowd is all gazing at the man. My eyes go back to the man in front to confirm that he is indeed facing away from everyone who seems to focus on him. This makes me look closely at the crowd to see what else they are doing and what the man is doing to draw so much attention. After having a look at the entire image, my eyes then move to the background, and that is when I realize that there is a woman standing behind the man. Initially, it appeared like the man leaned on the wall but I can now see that he is leaning on a woman. This makes me question the entire scene and wonder whether the crowd in the picture is gazing at the woman behind or the man. The thing that appears most important in the image based on its directional force is the arrangement and orientation of the people in the image. The primary point of focus is Oliver, the man standing in front of the crowd. The man draws so much attention of the eyes until the other elements of the image only become clear after lengthily and closely gazing at and analyzing the man. For instance, the crowd, as well as the woman standing behind Oliver is not clear until the eyes have lengthily and closely looked at the

The message of this illustration is that aging individuals can love their bodies just the way they are, and can be viewed as attractive. The lady is unmistakably depicting a cutting edge sexy style in her "diaper" generally worn by females in their twenties. This demonstrates she is assured about her sexuality and age doesn’t have to hinder her appreciation for human sexuality and attempts to look physically attractive to her other half by keeping up with current socially sexual satisfactions. Her better half is by all accounts humiliated or even joking about her apparel. He could be implying that he is agreeable in his own particular sexuality and that the need to fit in with cutting edge sexual conduct is not necessary, or they could just both be humoring each other with her diaper thong, the bra, while still wearing her rolled up socks.…

What differs from a photo of nature out in the sun with a photo of nature glared from the moon? Depth. The sun holds emphasis on light that contract to the environment which makes them glow. Therefore, the nature that is shown encaptures the distance from the camera to everything in front with the sun as its boundary. The moon works the same way except it overpowers what’s in front by censoring nature with darkness, making the photo apparent only to the moon than everything else surrounding it.…

In John Berger’s book Understanding a Photograph, he argues that there is a distinct discontinuity between an individual viewing a photo, and the actual photo. A picture solely preserves a single moment in time, and while they often act to tell a story, the medium cannot be fully interpreted without knowing the story that surrounds it. Although there is a definite connection between a photograph and the narrative that corresponds with it, the photo is only a visual aid for the story; it does not tell us everything like the written piece does. I agree with Berger’s argument that photographs can shape the written story that is told about a single character through invoking various responses, emotions, feelings, and interpretations between the…
