Conflict is one of the events can bring disastrous effects like war to not only the human population and the environment but also the victim’s mental state. It can happen for many reasons like lacking resources, showing off weaponry,….but the biggest reason that, in fact, happens in many countries is ethnic conflict. Most of the conflicts that happen in this world happen just because they have different bloodlines or cultures and beliefs. The story tells of a girl named Ashen, who is a subject of a tug-of-war between her divorced parents. They live separately from each other, so we can see that Ashen occasionally moves in order to visit her parents. Due to her family’s conditions, she becomes more independent, rebellious, and more tomboyish, which is the reason why most of the town’s children and adults resented her, except an Azerbaijani boy from one of her neighborhood. It is later shown that Ashen’s father had remarried and his new Russian wife had become a second mother to the little child. The events begin to get intense when Ashen’s mother’s brother in a gang fight, following by the assassination of the killer, which is the point when the conflict breaks between Armenia and Azerbaijani. Ashen’s mother is forced to hand over her to her father for her own safety. Following the climax of the film in which the two gang fights and Armenians being killed by Azerbaijani citizens, Ashen survives at a cost of losing her father and both mothers, being rescued by the boy’s family. Hinting by the boy’s mother hugging her after crying because she couldn’t save her own husband and daughter, we can see that the woman finally raises Ashen like her own child.
