Lawrence. They were not afraid of the danger that could occur if they travelled to these places. It was the excitement that sent their adrenaline pumping. This is what inspired Bailey, his aim to capture something beautiful, no matter what the cost was. Bailey quoted “Curiosity is everything. If you don’t have curiousity , you don’t have anything. That’s the thing that keeps you going”. No wonder he is a big influence to many. The intended use of this photograph was at first a personal use as he wanted to visit this place he read about when he was a teenager. He had tried many times to get to Nagaland but entry to foreigners had been closed until recently due to violent separatist movement that had overcome the state until the late 90s. Then the use was commissioned , thanks to the Anglian Omega and their football club which was close to the region. They focused on places that are neglected and the life that these people were living. He wanted to also photograph the last of the headhunters , however the tribes were miles apart and the roads were awful. The authorities have confiscated most of the skulls that Bailey wanted to add towards this portrait. The use of this portrait is one of many from his Nagaland collection and Bailey is working on a book all about the life of the Nagas.
In conclusion, this shines a light of a different side to Bailey and I think makes his travelling work more valuable and intriguing to his studio work especially to my
