These friends are similar in age to you and around you most of the time. As you get older your peer groups help influence you more. I was homeschooled from first grade to sixth grade, so I really didn’t have any interaction with my peer groups. Only in the fall and spring when I played soccer, I sometimes felt like the odd one out because I was never kept update on all the new trends and I really didn’t socialize with kids my age very often.
