When it’s spring, at the bottom of the big fat tree trunks grow some of the most beautiful yellow flowers. Consequently, when it’s summer the water gets more turquoise. I like to sit on a fallen tree next to the river to hear the soft, angelic flow of the water. Of course, nature has a lot of magnificent places, but there is nothing in this world better than My Peace Of Mind. This favorite place of mine is next to an abandoned, broken down, moldy building. Holding on to what makes us whole will eventually be the comfort we seek. Wilfred M. McClay and Ted V. McAlister wrote “Why Place Matters”. According to McClay and McAllister, many risks may come to us as individuals and to society when we lose our connection to physical space, an example would be a childhood home. Risks have the ability to range from minor to major. The possible risks would include losing one’s identity, losing communication with loved ones, we would communicate with on a daily basis, as well as forgetting the significant meaning to the memories.…

There is no price to pay for happiness I used to believe I had to work hard and obey the rules to achieve the American Dream. A few years ago, I was promoted to chief executive officer of a company after several years of employment and schooling. I worked over sixty hours a week, I was sleep deprived, and I didn 't spend much time on leisure. Despite that, I had a high ranking position, owned an enormous house, drove a luxury car, and I couldn 't wait for the two weeks of vacation I took every year. Working hard all year gave me some time for pleasure and relaxation.…

In McClay and McAllister’s “Why Place Matters,” they argue that space is not important to society or individuals due to globalization. Globalization has happened because of the technological advances of communication and transportation, which make it easy to move people, products, and ideas. The authors claim that place is an important aspect to us as individuals because if not important we risk forfeiting the reality of embodiment, the basis for healthy and resilient individual identity, and preconditions for cultivating of people’s virtues. One can only be a citizen of a physical place not to a website or cloud of information. Seeing friends and family through a screen isn’t the same as interacting with them in person.…

By implementing the tenets of Transcendentalism of nature, individualism, solitude and manual labor, can I transform my lifestyle to embody a sense of simplicity separate from the city like Thoreau’s cabin at Walden Pond? If I were to follow the tenets of nature, individualism, solitude and manual labor, then I would most likely find myself enjoying the fresh air, sunlight, in addition to perhaps taking these saunters every once in awhile even after the project to separate myself from anxiety. By conducting this experiment, I have realized that the sound of crickets has grown on me in this short time. In the beginning, their constant chirping was trying and rather annoying.…

Thriving Through Adversity Growing up, as the oldest of three girls, I soon developed a sense of entitlement that, in the years to come, I would find did not suit me well. Fortified by the nurturing nature of my mother, I, being the strong willed, independent, and self righteous child I was, found that the ebb and flow needed in aiding the fresh wounds left by the separation of my parents was far less attainable than the easily reachable strategy, that I oftentimes fell back on, known as distancing myself from all that made me feel vulnerable. Not having a strong father figure in my life has helped to shape me not only as a student, a writer, a daughter, or a sister, but a person. Most would view this situation negatively but I choose to…

The search for beauty is the search for love and acceptance (Source A), but also a toll of deception to possibly cover up the ugliness inside (Source B). A French poet described beauty as being a certain je ne sais quoi meaning I don’t know what. What is certain is that the world is losing its grip by placing outer qualities above inner qualities. While beauty is a positive virtue it does not help benefit the world in any way thus it shouldn’t be given any…
