Vision and mission statements of a company are seen as the base of the company’s success. They motivate company’s employees to provide support and contribute to innovation to bring competition to other companies offering the same service. Mission statement should be changed frequently for it to address the changing market and organizational conditions. The vision statement shows the direction of company’s product development and growth. Also, the mission statement is meant to show the actions required to ensure the company remains successful. This paper discusses the mission and vision statements of Apple and Intel companies since the two can be categorized as technology companies.
According to Andre and Luther (2012), the vision of Apple Company is “We believe that we are on the face of the earth to make great products and that’s not changing. We are constantly focusing on innovating...And I think regardless of who is in what job those values are so embedded in this company that Apple will do extremely well.” This statement was introduced by the company’s CEO Tim Cook. The statement does not indicate goals and objectives for other areas. It has no details about market leadership, innovation and, corporate social responsibility. The statement is achievable, realistic, manageable and specific and too narrow. This explains this statement cannot be used in explaining the company’s global business. However, Intel’s mission statement has satisfied convention’s which are required to write mission statements. Intel has indicated in their mission statement that they will keep enhancing their products, and bring the products to all customers around the world.
