There is materialistic monism, idealistic monism, and the mind-stuff theory. “According to the first doctrine, everything in the universe, including mental phenomena, is reduced to the one category of matter. In the second doctrine, matter is regarded as a form of manifestation of mind; and in the third doctrine, matter and mind are considered merely aspects of each other.”(1) One Advantage of monism is that 1 thing can explain everything. For example if someone were to ask me how the earth got here, I would say God created earth. A disadvantage would be that you may not get the answer you are looking for. For example, if someone were to ask me who created God, I would answer that God has always been. This can leave the person asking the question very annoyed. “Pluralism refers to a society, system of government, or organization that has different groups that keep their identities while existing with other groups or a more dominant group.”(1) Doing research I came across some examples of pluralism. One is example was about this woman named JoAnne who grew up in the United States but her parents were from Lebanon. (1) Because her parents acted, dressed, and cooked a certain way she would often act in that manner. (1) An advantage in this situation is that if she were to move to Lebanon she would most likely be alright because she grew up a certain way.
